@Michaelsherman - Any Roaming addons are for use whilst in the USA only. Just making sure...are you in the USA?

If you are still in Canada, you need regular USA calling addons to call into the US, NOT Roaming ones.

Assuming you bought one of the talk bundles.

If you set networks to automatic then the only thing it can connect to is T-Mobile. So just leave it on automatic.

If your phone is normally set to LTE etc then roaming data and text should work fine.

If your device has been enabled for volte and you have it on and working here then talk shouldn't be a problem.

Failing volte, if your phone can be manually set to 2G/GSM then talk shouldn't be a problem. Text will work too. No data.

If you're not in Alaska then roaming should work. But of course as with all providers, coverage can vary.

Not if you have VoLTE, which many do now.

check to confirm if your phone is connected to T-MOBILE.  If not, change the Network connection to manual and then choose T-Mobile

And yes, US voice is hard to connect, try 2 things

First try VoLTEe, enable VoLTE on your device 

iPhone: Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Voice & Data, enable 4G or LTE there

Pixel:  Settings->Network and Internet->Internet, click on the settings icon besides SIM 1, turn on 4G calling there

Samsung/ Other Android: Settings->Connection->Mobile Data, enable VoLTE there

if that does not work, try to change the Preferred network type or network mode to 2G

in order to call in the US with a roaming add on, you need to ‘force’ your device down to 2G under network/cellular connection.

this is due to the decommissioning of the 3G network in the US.
