US add-on for 3g plan

My son has a Pixel 5 phone with the $15 3g talk and text plan.  We'll be travelling to the US (road trip to NYC) and I want to get an add-on, the 15-day talk and text plan. Will that work with his current plan? The information out there about the winding down of the US 3g networks is confusing.

You should be fine but remember to enable Roaming and also connect to T-Mobile or AT&T network. Pick the one with the strongest signal strength. Both of you should purchase the USA Roaming bundle if you are using your own phones.

You should be good on 4G and also enable VoLTE.

You can use WhatsApp to call and text each other if both of you have the app for free service connect to wifi or use TextNow app. These app can be a backup if Roaming service is weak but you should be good to go.

yes, it will work.  Pixel 5 has VoLTE and you can try it on the 4G/LTE network on T-Mobile or AT&T.  Even it does not work, you can fall back to 2G network on T-Mobile. 

and worst case, if nothing work (just in case), PM support agent usually will be able to provide refund on the purchase

he'll def need the 15 Day US Roaming add-on for use whilst in US. Check the phone to make sure it's VLOTE enabled. Turn off wifi and make a call. If the phone drops to 3G it's not enabled...if it stays at 4G or LTE it is enabled and he'll have no probs while in US making calls.
