Need some help, Dad doesn't have data on his rogers plan and hasn't received SMS text to port his nbr. Will this mean he can't port it to PM? Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

@deloreh : The phone (if compatible) should be able to do outbound calls and texts and data. Keep using the phone with the Rogers SIM until it stops working. If you answered yes to the text that is.

Thank you all. There was a problem activating the SIM once that was resolved by the agent I called everything is fine now. Just waiting for his PM account to activate.

you don't need any data to received SMS, the normal Text message you will received
Make sure that you have the old sim card in your phone when you're porting your phone. You should get a message from your old carrier asking to confirm if you would like to port your number. Your reply should be: YES.
The confirmation message can take a few minutes to come in. You have 90 minutes from the time of request.
Good luck and your Dad welcome to Public Mobile
with a Beautiful Service
you will be very happy

Your dad should get the SMS text from Rogers within a 90 minute window but it may take up to 2 hours with the Rogers SIM in his phone.
He just have to wait for the text and click YES that he is porting over to PM.

@deloreh : Whatever services were being subscribed to at the other end doesn't matter to what services will be subscribed to here. If a text can't be received like with a landline then other porting arrangements will be needed.
Got a make/model/submodel?

@deloreh : If it's Rogers cell service then did he leave the old SIM in the phone? Also, what are the first 6 digits of the number if you mind sharing. Also, what make/model/submodel is the phone? If he had been with Rogers for quite some time then maybe he has an old phone that might not be compatible here.
