Travelling within canada

AngelaPeh
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

Hello,  I just received notification welcoming me to the USA and telling me I can do an add on for $10.  I am in Montreal from June 2-6th and want to ensure I am not billed incorrectly.  I have unlimited texting and calling within Canada (and I thought international) correct?  So my monthly bill should remain the same as usual, correct?

thank you,

@AngelaPeh  Interesting... I wonder if somehow you briefly picked up a USA tower from Virginia. Otherwise Montreal seems too far... unless you were in the area south of Montréal.. Anyhow - at least you don't have to worry about automatic roaming charges that would have kicked in with the higher tier providers, but if it keeps happening, you can go into mobile network settings and disable automatic network selection and choose Public Mobile manually...

PS: You probably should edit your post to remove your personal info/phone number as this is a public forum...

I agree that a device shouldn't be seeing a using a network under normal circumstances in Montreal, but I've also seen strange things similar to this in Toronto near the lake picking up a T-Mobile signal.

How to turn off data roaming on an Android (maybe something similar for apple)
  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap "Connections."
  3. 3, Tap "Mobile networks."
  4. Turn off "Data roaming" by swiping the button to the left.
  5. Open the Messages app.
  6. Tap the three dots to the right of the search icon, and, in the drop-down menu, tap "Settings."
  7. Tap "More Settings."

edit, or you could select manually to choose 'Public Mobile' as your network provider in that area of your settings.

You have unlimited calling within Canada whilst you are in Canada.

YES, you have unlimited texting internationally whilst you are in Canada.

The first part wouldn't work.  Turning off data roaming or making adjustments to the text messaging app settings wouldn't prevent the phone from connecting to the the roaming network.  Turning off data roaming would only prevent mobile data use while connected to a roaming network.

@AngelaPeh

Please edit your phone # from your post.

If you continue to recieve this message change your mobile networks setting from automatic to 3G only. Don't worry about extra billing it doesnt exist at public mobile. You wont be charged for anything you havent already chosen and purchased ahead of time.

Please remove your personal information by clicking on the down arrow in a circle top right.

This message will pop up with your Cellular Data Option is set on roaming when you are in the proximity of a US cell tower. Disable this function.
