Hi,
I know there are no plans for Jamaica from Public Mobile and I can purchase a temporary sim once there. But how does an Esim work if my phone is compatible? Is this something loaded to my phone some how electronically? Will I have my same phone number to Text and phone? any input on this appreciated if you have done this before.

Providers like Airalo allow you to download an esim while still at home, and then simply turn it on when you arrive. In taking a quick look at their Jamaica plans, they aren't cheap. Just Google "Travel E-Sim", as there are tons of options out there. If pricing is high for all of them, it might be worth just getting a local sim when you arrive.

Your Public Mobile number will not work at all while you are there. You could consider signing up for a free Text Now phone number before you leave, and then set up unconditional call forwarding of your calls to your Text Now number. You're out of luck for texting, with the exception of RCS/iMessage as noted. Unless you have a burner phone kicking around and wanted to leave you Public Mobile sim in that phone and leave it at home connected to a charger; you can download text forwarding apps to have your texts sent to an email address, but of course you won't be able to reply.

@Halden , generally e-SIM roaming services do not come with a phone number for talk and text. It would be data only. Since Public Mobile does not offer roaming in Jamaica, you will not be able to use your service. However, if you are running RCS for text messaging, you will be able to communicate via RCS on your phone number.
