Apologies if this has been asked and answered, I haven't found the exact answer to this question so I thought I would ask.
I have an iPhone 11 and will be transferring to an iPhone 16 soon. I would like to keep my phone number which is on a physical SIM. It appears they do have a physical SIM tray on the new phones still in Canada. Should I transfer to an eSIM on my current phone first to keep my number and then move the eSIM over to the new phone? Or is it better to transfer the physical SIM to the iPhone 16 and then purchase an eSIM to transfer the number? Or is there another way I'm not thinking of? In the end, I would prefer having an eSIM to a physical one. I am already a PM customer and would like to keep my plan at it's same price and benefits/loyalty rewards as well so the method that would limit any increases to payments is what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks, this would be my preferred option. I’m guessing based on the other responses this method might not be as immediate and take some time for the CS Agent to make a transfer of the number, but I think I’m okay with that, I’ll just choose when I do this wisely. Thanks!

It is much easier to just pop the old SIM from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 16. Everything in your account will be transferred to the iPhone 16 and reboot the iPhone 16 by powering off then back on.
eSIM transfer will take a bit of work to transfer the SIM account information to the eSIM where you need to download the PM app and login to your account on the phone and make an eSIM purchase and have a CS_Agent transfer from SIM to eSIM.
i would leave the eSIM while you are travelling abroad and purchase a local eSIM from that country.

yes, you just need to buy a new esim on the iPhone 16, plans and number will stay with the new esim. Login the app with the login you have been using to access PM My Account, and buy esim from the Account page.

hi @stephd27
to avoid setup confusing, i suggest you not to put the physical sim card in the new phone. Leave it on the phone phone
Then just download the PM app on the new phone, login (2FA will be sent to your phone and you pick up the code on the old phone), and go to Account page and Purchase sim card and choose esim and follow the steps
