International Esim with calling/text

Help needed with international calling/text. I’m going to Europe for 6 months. I am getting an esim from a different company (Maya) and it gives me data and an esim. No local phone number. It says I can call on wifi calling, does that mean I can call and text with my Canadian number with no charges from Public Mobile? Should I turn off my public mobile number altogether? Or can I use it while on this new data plan? Thanks in advance for the help!

So it sounds like there’s no way that my Toronto phone number will work while I’m in Europe, either as a text message or cellular calling since I don’t have that set up on my Public Mobile phone.

Do I need to turn off my eSIM for Public Mobile in the cellular settings tab of my iPhone? Or just leave it as is, since it won’t work anyway until I’m back on Canadian soil.

Thank you so much for your help

@Rachel12345 you don't have to worry about incurring additional fees from Public Mobile while away from Canada. Since Public Mobile has not option for roaming outside of Canada/US/Mexico you will not get billed for a service they do not provide. Even if you were in the US or Mexico, they will not charge you extra if you don't have one of their roaming plans, the service will simply not work if you did not pay for it (Public Mobile is a pre-paid service so you have to pay first to get the service). That being said, you will not be able to get any texts or phone calls from Public Mobile so you will need to make arrangements with a local SIM, or travel SIM or with just Wifi using apps like WhatsApp or Messenger, etc

I also would like to receive text messages via Wi-Fi while I’m in Europe on my Public Mobile phone, unless that means I will be incurring additional fees

Thanks for the reply. I’m actually going to be coming back-and-forth so I’ll be keep my Public Mobile phone line active, but I wanna make sure that while I’m in Europe, I am not incurring any data or long-distance fees from Public Mobile, instead using the eSIM while in Europe.

@Rachel12345 since you're going to be away for 6 months you're going to need to decide what you are going to do with your Public Mobile account and number. You can unsubscribe from your plan but you'll need to turn it back on before 90 days is up otherwise your account will be automatically closed and you will lose your number for good. If you turn it back on at around the 88th day (just to make sure there are no hiccups) then you can unsubscribe again for another 88 days or say. The other option would be to port your number out to another company like Fongo but you will lose any friend referrals you might have

Public doesn't have any support for European roaming or Wifi calling. You'll have to get calls from another provider, be it via esim or some app over data.
