Yes, happened 5-6 years ago.
It was much longer ago than that. These days, I don't really see Public Mobile as being a company any longer, but rather just a brand.

Customer is KING......is so old. Businesses have gone for bust that used to treat customers like Kings. Companies have tightened up on their policies, returns policies, price matching, and customer service overall.
Telus bought PM when the CTRC mandated that the big carriers had to offer low cost options. PM was the answer for Telus to do so.
What is wrong with the online only business structure? Help is reasonably quick, no waiting on phone for hours waiting for someone to answer. And let’s face it....I would say....40% or more of the issues are customer caused.

Telus owns PM
PM physical stores is unrelated with that. PM has an fully online model and their focus shifted away from physical stores. They do have a very small number of kiosks. (4 as of 2019 but I am not certain if they are still open, especially after the covid lockdown)
Our first kiosks are now open! Check them out. - Community (publicmobile.ca)
If you need to activate or buy SIM in store, PM does have some authorized partners everywhere, those mobile "superstore" which represent different carriers. Some examples are those mobile stores in Walmart/London Drugs/Supercentre/Mobile Klinik. Or you can also check Koodo stores.

Telus does own Public mobile, but they are separate companies with different management teams, etc.
Public mobile does value customer service and is working hard to improve customer experience. However, I doubt that PM will change their customer service model soon. To keep costs of plans lower for customers, PM customer service model is the present online ticketing, private messaging model. Live chat or a call centre is not being planned in the near future at least. If that does not meet your needs, then other mobile companies may work better for you.

PM is a spin-off of Telus, not bought by Telus.
If you want premium service, then you go to Telus. But you'll pay a price for full service.
If you want low prices, you go with PM. Lower prices, less service (only online, no stores, no phone hotline).
your statement is incorrect, see articles from 2013.

@XionBunny You're correct. I guess the webpage where I got my info was wrong too.

That's the way they run their business, since PM is a third tier (read: cheap) provider, with only ONLINE support.

Public Mobile is owned by Telus (which also owns Koodo).
