Need help. Two questions! 1. Right now I’m with Fido. I want to switch over to PM with the phone number I already have. Once I switch, do I have to call Fido to cancel my payments? Also, the whole reason I need to switch is bc I have a OnePlus 8T and it’s not going to be compatible with them anymore. 2. Will Public be compatible with the 8T or even the 12 or 13 phone bc I might just buy a new phone.

@Techfish @golfball  are correct.

You may be substituting one problem for another problem by switching carriers.

I would suggest that you do some Google or reddit searches and see if there's any way that you can enable your phone to work with Fido. And you may be better off. just buying an updated phone. The battery in your OnePlus is probably worn out anyways.

After your port your number to Public, your account would be closed.

No OnePlus devices are on the official list (but it's old and rarely updated) but some Community users confirmed their OnePlus devices (including the 8T to work). Otherwise, it would use the 3G network, which will shut down soon if not already.

I'd suggest you take a new number during activation of your Public Mobile account...then when plan is up and running you can initiate port of your Fido number to Public Mobile. Once you've successfully ported to PM, your Fido account is deactivated automatically. Here's a list of cellphones that Public Mobile has whitelisted for VolTE use...

Once you port your Fido account would be automatically closed.

Your phone needs to be VoLTE enabled in order to function properly on Public Mobile as they're slowly beginning the process of winding down their 3G network. OnePlus phones are not listed on PM's official VoLTE support list so it may or may not work.
