I’m switching phones so I took SIM card out of old phone and put in new one. I set up the phone but it says no service.

I needed to go into the contacts and change his profile phone number, as you should be listed as the top contact (if it is a samsung phone at least), and put in your current phone number in this profile. Then rebooted the phone and BAM! Finally on network. Hope this helps! I think it relates to telling the SIM card that this is the account?
@mundler I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about here. Are you sure the reboot itself isn't what resolved the issue? Your contacts have absolutely nothing to do with your phone's ability to negotiate with the network by way of the SIM card.
Hey @srlawren, purely my observation of what happened. Regardless of continual restarts, the SIM card would not register the new phone number until I changed the contact profile. Following the last restart, the phone is recognizing its new number without any further issue.

@kav2001c yep, this is why between them, @Carld123 and @Lieux were asking @Jordo75 about the phone's model and whether it's unlocked, back on Wednesday. We have yet to hear back. Until we do, all we can is speculate, as you have.

Couple things could be at play here
Phone may not support correct network frequencies (esp if this is an international phone or a Rogers phone)
Phone might be locked to old carrier
Phone could be defective
When was last time you used this other phone?
On Public or another carrier?

i am thinking is your phone asking you for a network unlock code, if so you need to contact your previous pervider to get that code

I would suggest troubleshooting in the following order.
1. Does the phone work in general. Is the problem repeatable using a different SIM card.
2. Is the phone compatible with the Public Mobile network. Check using this site. https://willmyphonework.net/
3. Is the phone SIM locked.

As others said, it's key that you tell us what phone you're trying to switch to (make/model), whether it's been known to work with another SIM card, and whether it's unlocked or locked to a specific carrier.

Is your phone unlocked from the old company @Jordo75???

Try turning the phone off, put it into reset mode, clear the cache, reboot.
