Still trying to activate my SIM card

mylodon
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I joined on Nov 22 2018 but SIM card activation failed because my phone was still locked to the previous provider. Before I reached that point I had already set up an account, entered my SIM card number, email, etc. etc.

Because my previous provider was in the UK, unlocking the phone took longer (and cost more) than I expected, but now it is done. However, when I go back online from my Account page and click on "Activate a SIM card," I am sent to a page that wants me to set up an Account (but I already have an account). Can't seem to get around this. Can anyone help?

Right ya. With chatr the rep did it for me he knew what he was doing. He knew to only punch out micro. When i siigned up for pm the rep was in walmart and was rushed and weird and handed me the sim card and i hadent dealt with one for a yr so i forgot how it works and i punched out tbe nano card ie too small of one and then i put tbe nano in the micro and its tight but i guess it can get shiffted or something. But the rep af walmart said it does not matter im not sure though...

I would try shimming it with paper if you really think it's shifting in the slot. Maybe packaging plastic might work too for a different kind of rigidity. Heck maybe just scotch tape to hold the sim to the adapter.

I don't know. That's where I would direct my energies. Or a new SIM.

I'll stop here for a few hours. I hope something works for you. And welcome by the way. 🙂

So i may need to do a factory data reset? Aahh thats honna be a headach since i have google 2 step as an app. So ill need to deactivate those temporarily... I use google photos for photo video backup. Do you know what i cab use to save apps to?.

And then also are you saying this is my next step there is no other step? I never had this prob w chatr then again i never had a sim tbat was snapped out of its adapter and tben put back into adaptor...you know what i mean? Its like i think no matter how flush i make it, because the tabs have been snapped there is the possibility that it can get unaligned when i insert it back in...

I'm no LG expert. Just reading past problems here seems to point to factory resets. And again those may have been problems with internet data.

I think you have more of a physical problem. The SIM card has three sizes: standard, micro, nano. Your phone I believe has micro. If what you've punched out is just barely the gold contacts area with little to no surrounding area then you've punched too far.

You may be on to something with re-using the larger punch out.

Do you have a way to test another SIM to see if disconnects? I know you said you didn't have the problem before with Chatr so maybe that's that.

Maybe you have to go get another SIM and be very careful about not punching out too far.

Then again I've heard of people re-assembling to the larger sizes and working fine. So who knows.

Been with pm 2 days and had 4 for 4 yrs.

I just connected to network once again and it lasted maybe 5 min amd now once again i have an x next to zero bars and it says service disabled...

I have read many things here about LG phones. Maybe it needs a factory reset. I think I saw something about a backup system from LG for your data. But I'm not certain if it was just about internet data or the phone overall.

But still...the SIM should be the right one for your slot. There are three sizes on the card. It shouldn't be flopping around. Maybe a paper shim could be put in on top (not the gold contacts obviously) of the SIM to give it some rigidity.

I think you're answering your own question. If the SIM isn't in the slot properly then sure all kinds of irregularities can happen. The PM SIM that I got had all three sizes in one card. You punch out the size you need. I suppose it's kinda like an adapter but it's the one that came with the original card.

How long have you been with PM?

How long have you had the phone?

Im having a aimilar issue. I have to turn my phone off and re insert my sim card so that it makes a connection i gues with my phone. I have a micro sim with a mini adaptor i think for my lg g3 and the sim card was taken out of the mini adaptor so im guessing it not flush somehow somwtimes, but whats strange is it will not allow me to click mobile networks inorder to click search networks automatically and will show a circulating symbol next to zero bars of service meaning no service. So i will tuennoff phone realign sim turn phone back on and mobile networks button will be usable now but when i search it searches for a min and comes back saying sim cannot connect to this network. I have pm settings in APN correct. It was findng networks yeaterday the day i got this sim and plan with the same issues as above, no servixe reinserting sim etc. But it would finally conect and now it wont. My phone is compatibal a koodo phone that was unlocked by telus a yr ago so i could use it with chatr sim. Now i have a lm sim and its doing this saying sim cannot connect to this network or network. Please help

You're fine where you are. However you have indicated a solution. Not to take away from a fellow member but you can undo it if you like.

@AnonymousSolution was we figured out he did not need to activate a sim, case solved.

Now a new issue, no service 😉

Is your phone compatible with the network? Not listed as lost/stolen? What is the phone network status? What happens if you call yourself?  What happens if someone calls you? What happens if you call 611?  Are you connected to the public mobile network? Have you tried turning air plane mode on, then off? Manual network search does what?

How do you know its not working? What happens if someone calls you does it say number is not in service, number can't be dialed, go to your voicemail, what happens if you text? ... etc

hmm, I don't have a tool to open the phone but I'm pretty sure the card number is correct. so I should start a new topic with "I have no service"?

@mylodon

I would also check if your model is compatable with Public Mobile.  Which phone/model?

You could also check:

@mylodonOk so take the sim card out of your phone, look at the 4 digits and confirm they are they same in self serve. If they are you do not need to activate your sim and your topic should state "I have no service", "cant use phone" "not connected to network", etc and thats a totally different conversation

@mylodonWhat do you see here? Plans/Addons -> Change sim

sim.pngHave you tried your sim card in another phone? Could it be your phone is not actually unlocked still?

@mylodonTry the lost / stolen trick

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Paying-for-your-service/SOLUTION-My-plan-has-enough-f...

1.  Report your phone lost/stolen in the self service account and logout.  Wait 5-10 minutes.  Re-login and report phone found.  Reboot your phone.  This seems to reset your SIM card and hopefully activates your plan/account.

@mylodon

It’s possible (but unlikely) your SIM has not yet activated. However, clicking on ‘activate a SIM card’ on the PM home page will always send you to an account login request. As others suggest, log in to your account and look for the status. If the SIM were not yet activated, you should do it from inside your account.

Try the lost/stolen feature.
Log in to self-serve. Plan & Add-Ons from top menu. Lost/Stolen Phone from next menu. Suspend Service button. Log out. Wait a few minutes. Log back in and back to Lost/Stolen Phone and Resume Service this time. Log out. Restart phone.
See what happens.

If you already set up a self service account, your SIM card should be active

Have you tried to put the SIM card into your unlocked phone? Hopefully it should work.

@mylodonThe phone being locked or not makes no difference in the activation process. You activate your plan on a sim card, not a phone. If you have an account and are able to log in, what does it show the account status is? When you log in to your account, If you click plans & add ons you can click "Change Sim Card" you could enter it there, but your original sim should be working if you have an account unless it was deactivated?

If the sim card is now in your unlocked phone, try restarting your phone.

Can you send a screen shot of your "my account" page overview?
