man this whole process has been brutal. I ported successfully (got the welcome text from public) and now I just have SOS and can't text or call at all. I've done everything from rebooting to resetting network settings, and I even bought a new E sim. nothing working. I've toggled on and off the line, airplane mode, everything.

you got the welcome email might not mean the port was done. You replied Yes to your old provider to approve the port yet?
if you did, please make sure your old sim card is removed (or if esim, please disable it). Then check if PM sim is enabled and set as Primary
next, reboot phone and click Reset network settings. You should see the phone showing connected to Public Mobile. Test again
