@Jennacherice you really need to get another sim , different provider, and test

your best bet is Apple Store., or BestBuy , if there are any in your area

They didn’t have their SIM card in it but when I opened it there was still a notification for a voicemail sent today

Did the seller show it to you in working condition?

Jennacherice

I did to no avail they are also with public mobile

iPhone being rather expensive, the pricing is probably reasonable if only it would work.  Are you able to try your room mates SIM in the phone?

Jennacherice

That’s exactly what it says

Ok. It’s an iPhone . .

Go to settings, general about.

Scroll down a bit.

If carrier lock says....No Sim Restrictions.....then it is UNLOCKED.

lol I’m going to cry like grey listed what even is that who knew

It’s an iPhone 11 but I paid extra to have them deliver it

It's possible.  When buying used merchandise, extensive testing before handing over payment is essential.  What model of phone is this?  $500 seems rather rich for a phone with no warranty.

So in that instance I basically just pissed away $500 lol?

Two thing to try.  (and I'm the owner of a very busy cell phone repair shop, and this is what we would do if you came in with the same issue).
1.  Take the public sim and try in another phone that you know works and is unlocked (or locked to Telus).  If the sim works fine in that phone...then you know the sim is fine.
2.  Take another known working sim (from any network) and try it in your new phone.  If the known working sim doesn't work in your phone, then you know the issue is with your phone specifically. If the issue IS with your phone, then you need to contact the seller and either try and return the phone, or get them to show you the phone is working with their sim.
A damaged sim reader in a phone can cause some Wonky things to happen, but if phone isn't blacklisted (or grey-listed....and yes, there is such a thing....locked by a network for non payment of contract), and doesn't work with 2 different sims, then the phone is the issue.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately my roommate also uses public lol so I’m not sure it didn’t ask me for a code just searched for a moment then just showed up with any bars for signal you’re highly overestimating the amount of friends I have lol

@Jennacherice , good.  When you put the PM sim into it, it didn't give you any error?  it didn't ask you for any PUK code?

do you have any other sim card around?  the best is to put in different sim card and see if it ask for PUK code.

If you don't have one , ask your friend.  Ask 2 or 3 friends with different carriers, Rogers, Bell etc

Did that says it’s not

@Jennacherice

first check if the phone is clean or blacklisted here:

It appears to be unlocked how do I check for sure

Jennacherice

It doesn’t appear to be no

I checked said website says the phone isint blacklisted or listed as stolen idk what I’m supposed to do from here

If the phone was carrier locked to the Telus network, the phone would work.  There's no way that Public Mobile can unlock a phone that is locked to a different carrier network.  You need to get the phone unlocked with the seller's help. They might have information on which carrier the phone is locked to.

Says no sim restrictions or whatever seems to me me it’s unlocked

Your device is likely carrier locked, or on the national blacklist (as lost or stolen).  It will show public mobile that it's connected to but it won't allow calls or texts in North America, if on blacklist.

Hey says it’s not blacklisted or reported stolen talked to Apple care they said something about needing my carrier to do something to fix it
