I'm planning to study abroad (not in the US) in the new year. Wondering if I would still be able to receive incoming text messages for services that send verification codes by sms. Of course I won't be sending text messages, making/receiving calls, or using data while abroad.

@alanol @The only way is leave your sim card in an active phone and install a sms forwarding app.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Any advice on how to get these verification codes for services that don't let you change your number to a non Canadian one?

To purchase Add-Ons using your Self-Serve account, follow these steps:
- Click on ‘Purchase Add- Ons’ on the Overview tab and scroll down to the Add-On calculator.
- Click the plus sign (+) to add and the minus sign (-) to remove selected Add-ons.
- When you’ve added all your desired Add-Ons, click ‘Buy Add-Ons’ or ‘Make a Payment’ below the calculator:
- You will see ‘Make a Payment’ instead of ‘Buy Add-Ons’ if there are not enough funds in your account to make the purchase.
- If you don’t have sufficient funds to purchase the Add-Ons, you will be asked to make a one-time payment equal to the price of the Add-On, less your current available funds. Click ‘Submit’, then ‘Go back’: now the button below the calculator will say ‘Buy Add-Ons’.
- Select ‘Confirm my purchase’, and you’re off to the races!

You may need to acquire a local SIM card and service where you'll be to receive these messages.
This is just to clarify the above that you will not receive the content of the text messages (such a banking verification codes) unless someone forwards them to you at the phone number that you go where you're visiting.
