Re: what happens if I ever switch from public mobile then come back?

If I transfer my public mobile phone number to a different carrier, can I still keep my current public mobile account and plan active and get a new public mobile phone# on the current account and plan and keep my rewards?

I understand that porting out closes the account. But I have to wonder why that is the only choice. Sure PM or any other provider doesn’t want to lose an account to another provider. But why would PM not want to hang on to someone who wants to keep their account active? The text to confirm that you want to leave PM could have three options:

YES

NO

YES - but assign a new phone number to my PM account when existing number ports out.

That would trigger an email to the PM account holder telling them that they ported their xxx-xxx-xxxx number out to ABC Mobility and have been assigned this new number. “Please log in if you need to check for different phone number or to schedule a plan change”.

Just like that, PM didn’t lose a customer. Of course there could also be a provision in self serve to set up the number port-out arrangement that allows a new number to be chosen in advance that will replace the old number when it is ported out.

There are many reasons that numbers may need to be ported out and it doesn’t automatically mean that PM will lose the customer. But PM does nothing to make it easy for the customer to stay.

99.99% of the time the answer to your question is no. However if you are porting to koodo or telus and you have a compelling enough reason such as a requirement from your job to port your number to a new account you may be able to have the new provider and/or a sympathetic CSA from pm customer support willing to work with you to achieve this and keep your pm account and plan/rewards.

Expect a no.....but it never hurts to ask as it is not unheard of just unlikely. Contact customer support first if you must port your phone number out and see what they say.

As soon as you port your Public Mobile phone number out to another provider you lose:

  • any available funds in your account
  • any rewards
  • any addons
  • access to your Self Serve account

The only thing you can keep is the phone number.

Yes, you can port back over to Public Mobile, but you need to start a new account with a new SIM.

No, when you port to another company your account will be closed immediately and before you do that remove your Autopay before you do porting to another company..
