RCS Not Available- Issue on BOTH iOS and Android

Preet456

Hi,

I bought a new phone.  Transferred the physical SIM over.  RCS will not work.  I tried everything on this site about Carrier Services, reinstalling Messages, all kinds of cache clearing and rebooting.

"Not Supported" RCS chats has been disabled by your carrier.

I think I need PM to fix this on the back end because that comes up immediately.  No waiting to set up etc.

hi @LitlLdy

so, the original esim was purchased less than 15 days?  did you need to change it because the first one did not work?or due to the RCS issue?

i think you can push for reimbursement.  I see on the community some got declined originally and then go the reimbursement after pushing for it.  The 15 days term I think just to avoid people changing back and forth daily or so.  But if you have a valid reason, I think they will do it.

@hTideGnow , No, it was completely my fault this time. I temporarily switched from an eSIM to a SIM Card due to they wanted me to test it in another phone to see if it was my iPhone or their service that was the issue of RCS not working for me. Which didn’t fix it due to it didn’t work in the other phone. I then purchased another eSIM due to the fact I need it so I can use another providers SIM Card in my iPhone. So, technically I didn’t qualify for a replacement eSIM.

It would cost more of a CS_Agent’s time just for me to ask for the refund of an eSIM that I technically don’t qualify for. Plus the risk of getting the same CS_Agent again that closed my ticket due to saying they can’t fix RCS for Customers due to it is not a service they provide. He was rude with his responses when doing so. I don’t have the energy for more!

I was just sharing the information I found in the help section so people will know whether or not they qualify for a free replacement eSIM.

I still need eSIM so I had to buy it again. It wasn’t a cheap fix for me due to my phone wasn’t the issue nor my eSIM. It was Public Mobile…. Replacement eSIMS are still free.  There hasn't been any change in that policy.

Hi @computergeek541 , sorry I didn’t know that you responded.

It wasn’t free to me due to the fact that the eSIM wasn’t purchased 15 days prior to the new request so I couldn’t request a refund. 😞

It states under the help section in eSIM Faqs:

Can I Transfer from eSIM to eSIM?

While direct eSIM to eSIM transfers are not supported, we do offer the option to transfer service from one eSIM to another by purchasing a new eSIM. If you are already using a Public Mobile eSIM, when you request a new eSIM, we automatically identify you as an existing eSIM user and waive the replacement fee, provided you meet certain conditions.

To qualify for a fee waiver when transitioning between eSIMs, you must meet the following criteria:

  • The current Public Mobile eSIM must be actively installed in the device you’re transferring from.
  • The eSIM must have been purchased at least 15 days prior to the new request.

Since Public’s fix the support steps worked on my iphone

Please try the following steps.

1-Turn Off RCS
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Scroll down and tap on Apps.

Tap on Messages in the app list.

Under the "Text Messages" section, find and tap the toggle next to RCS Messaging to turn it off.

2-Reset Network Settings ( it will erase wifi passwords )

Go to Settings

General

Transfer or Reset iPhone

Reset

Reset Network Settings.

3-Reboot the phone

4-Turn ON RCS

Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Scroll down and tap on Apps.

Tap on Messages in the app list.

Under the "Text Messages" section, find and tap the toggle next to RCS Messaging to turn it On.

yes I hate network reset (lose wifi passwords), but these steps didnt work without it for me.

hi @LitlLdy

for the eSIM replacement cost, try pushing for a refund.  Afterall, the agent's wrong reply caused all the dramas.  If they say now, ssk to escaulate

Thank you for the update.

I just turned RCS back on and pressed rety on my Pixel 10 and it now shows connected.

I didn't need to reboot or buy anew SIM.

It seems to be fixed finally. I can confirm it now works on both my kids iPhones.

This is resolved

Update Everyone: I kept RCS toggled off on my iPhone, paid for a new eSIM, rebooted, checked IMS Status & it now shows “Voice, SMS & RCS”! I checked under message section to toggle RCS on & it automatically turned itself on! I sent a test message, it was successfully sent, received & response back also through RCS! 🥳

Edit: So I would say Public Mobile fixed it on their end! 🙏🏼

It’s now working for me. got a text from tech-support tier 2 to reset my network settings. on an iPhone RCS is now working 👍

yes, that is Android, but the idea is to re-register RCS.  Since it works on Android, I think PM might have fixed the issue on the system

I think you can try to turn off RCS first.  Wait 15 minutes, reboot phone.  Update Carrier profile first and try turning on RCS again

@hTideGnow ,  that what I have been doing (RCS toggle is off under message section, waiting on IMS Status to update) as well as resetting network settings.

Public Carrier profile is the newest one available 65.0

I will update when I get it back.

@hTideGnow , not for me. I don’t have those options. I have an iPhone not Android. When the IMS only shows Voice & SMS (under Settings, General, About, IMS Status) RCS won’t activate unless it shows RCS to. RCS is still missing there for Public Mobile. Even when RCS is toggled on under message section it keeps showing waiting on activation. So, I turned it back off & keep checking IMS Status after rebooting iPhone each time. I will update if that changes.

I plan on getting another eSIM to replace the new SIM Card I installed a few days ago when it was suggested to see if that fixed RCS but it didn’t. Nor did restoring my iPhone as new which was suggested. I need an eSIM back so I am going to pay again to get that. Maybe that will trigger it even though a new SIM Card didn’t.

@hTideGnow , thank you for sharing this! I just saw the announcement now after signing on. 😊

hi @pleblanc925

you think too much.

PM support system does not have a dedicated agent assigned to any case.  Whoever monitor the inbox will pickup and work on it, even the ticket was handled by someone else before

I have the same issue, just upgraded to IOS25 and mow RCS isn’t working, super annoying

sarahsorochan

I had the exact same issue with my customer service agent. It wasn’t until I told them that my partner is with public and has RCS messaging that they escalated my ticket. If I hadn’t said that I’m sure my ticket would have just been closed.
I’m honestly regretting switching my whole family to Public. I’m missing so many work texts in my group chats and I cannot afford to wait “days or weeks” for the issue to get fixed.

Same! Just ported into PM and RCS is no longer working

@LitlLdy I finally changed my mobile provider following this agent's response. There is a good chance that I will change my whole family as a result of this problem. For me it is unacceptable that a company does not care about the problems of its customers and remains so closed to its beautiful sentences already all built. I confirm that he got me exactly the same beautiful sentences as you about the community and employees.

Any fix yet? RCS was working fine for me up until today. I had to reset Google messages and now it won't connect.

I tried to have a conversation with a French-speaking agent from Public Mobile (Alex), and he is completely closed off, saying that RCS is not a Public Mobile service. He is completely narrow-minded. @pleblanc925 , that might be the same one that I last received a message from after some other CS_Agents we’re trying to help me over the course of a few days. Tech Support even called me trying to troubleshoot.
So the last CS_Agent (Alex) I received a message from stated that “ RCS is not a Public Mobile service. We cannot really fix an issue if it's not with a service we provide.” So, he asked if the services they do provide work which I responded with sometimes yes & no due to poor signal here! He cancelled my support ticket regarding RCS not working on my service due to the fact as he said, it is not a service that they provide so they can’t fix it & he mentioned not wanting to waste any more of our time by escalating it to tech support on something they can’t fix & stated that is why it wasn’t fixed days ago when the support ticket was created. He didn’t understand why no one else had mentioned that to me.

Edit: I asked that last CS_Agent to discuss this with his coworkers due to the fact they were not aware of the information he provided & were trying to continue to help by escalating my ticket to Tech Support to work on it. I even mentioned that there’s several posts from other Customers on the community forum stating they have the same issues of RCS stopped working on their Public Mobile service but a different providers service on the same phone works without any issues. He stated that those are not Public Mobile employees posting. Correct, I know Public Mobile Customers that are posting asking other Customers for help are not Public Mobile employees!
