RCS Not Available- Issue on BOTH iOS and Android

Preet456

Hi,

I bought a new phone.  Transferred the physical SIM over.  RCS will not work.  I tried everything on this site about Carrier Services, reinstalling Messages, all kinds of cache clearing and rebooting.

"Not Supported" RCS chats has been disabled by your carrier.

I think I need PM to fix this on the back end because that comes up immediately.  No waiting to set up etc.

Ok it worked. Thank you for helping me.

No buddy, phone # stays the same. Download the PM app, go under account and purchase new eSIM ($5), follow the prompts it takes 2min.. make sure your on wifi during this time. The process will do its thing, you literally have to do nothing, reset network settings and let phone reboot. Once booted back all is done, just delete the old eSIM profile under Cellular

all the above is done right on the phone itself

So when you say buy new eSIM, totally change the number as well? If that is the case, this is very frustrating. I had this number for years.

if all participants are iPhone users it will work on the Apple message system but with Androids it will not. I also cannot send attachements to to an android user through messages.

I am having the same issue. imessage is working fine, and texting individually is working fine. But a groupchat with an android user I can't receive any messages

Yes I just did. Buy a new eSIM. It’s on the PM end, Apple won’t be able to do anything

Have you gotten any solutions for yours? I have been talking to Apple Support for 2 days now and not resolved yet. They are sending my case to their engineering team. I wonder how many PM subscribers has the same issue.

My issue started last week before the newest update, pm messages are not helpful as the problem persists. Even got a newer iPhone and still awaiting authorization

Public Mobile’s support is a joke, I will 100% be switching carriers as soon as I have time to. This is unacceptable.

@Curtis_24 , I have tried all the troubleshooting I could think of at great lengths to get RCS with Public Mobile working again on my iPhone after it stopped working! I reset network settings, toggle off RCS for hours then back on, toggled off for days then back on, tried a new Sim Card, reset my iPhone to factory settings, & so on. I keep my iPhone iOS updated. CS_Agents made suggestions but I have already tried them before asking for help. Nothing has worked but I have no issues with RCS working using a different providers SIM on the same iPhone!
I have been told that Public Mobile CS_Agents aren’t able to fix RCS to work on our devices even if it worked previously with their service.
I received a message last night from a different CS_Agent stating that “
RCS is not a Public Mobile service. We cannot really fix an issue if it's not with a service we provide.”

iOS 18.7+ on PM and eSIM. I had to open a support ticket and asked for a reprovisioning. Agent mentioned "refreshing" my connection too, whatever that amounts too/is different.

I haven't worked through it all yet but I suspect you will have to turn off RCS and get everyone else in the mixed iOS Messages group to do the same. This forces SMS.

They have been trying to help me solve it and no results as of yet

It's absolutely a public mobile issue, another carrier confirmed they'd had some port ins from public due to this issue

Side note - I moved to a new carrier and RCS worked immediately once again confirming not a phone issue, it's a public mobile issue.

@TimPhone , I stay perplexed on this, Public Mobile’s RCS stopped working on my iPhone before that. I have had no issues whatsoever with Rogers service using RCS in the same iPhone using any new iOS updates or previous iOS updates.

I'm going to assume you're in Winnipeg and using an iphone?  Only asking because I'm trying to narrrow down how widespread this issue is. In ottawa my iphone doesnt have RCS but my friend's Android does, he's here and on PM as well.  So it seems to be isolated to iphones with PM.

while carrier can block it, but with PM, it does not block that.

Many PM subscribers using RCS on iMessage without issue

i have to say, the RCS on iPhone is not reliable.  if you check the web, lots of complains with setup and complain about sudden inability to use RCS

@hTideGnow , I have no issues with RCS working using a different providers SIM in my iPhone (iOS stays updated with newest version) but for some odd reason Public Mobile SIM in the same iPhone no longer has RCS option available no matter how much troubleshooting I do so it can’t be my iPhone! IMS Status only show “Voice & SMS” for Public Mobile SIM & no RCS!

ignore RCS for now, some have trouble, just turn off RCS and make sure iMessage works first

and try to re-register iMessage.  remove the phone number from Settings, then reboot phone, and go back Settings and manually add the phone number back to re-register iMessage

Just found out that I haven’t been involved in some messages that were RCS Messages that have been going on for a long time.   When I send a message to the group they all get it but I’m not getting their messages.

in hindsight I’ve often had issues sending text messages since I got the service.  I’m wondering if it was an issue when I ported my number.

Did you update the iOS?? Did you have the latest Carrier Profile?  It could be more an Apple issue, but could also be the Carrier Profile not updated, either you don't have the latest Carrier Profile or PM has not update the Carrier Profile to make it compatible with that latest iOS

Hi @slusagm , yes I have the newest iOS update (Yesterday) which updates the carrier profile. I always make sure to. For what troubleshooting I did it is easier to show you another post I replied to “RCS Not Available “ plus copy & paste isn’t always friendly here 😉

It’s not an Apple issue due to RCS has no issues working (activated) on another SIM through a different provider in the same iPhone.

@slusagm , you’re correct, Public Mobile CS_Agents aren’t able to fix RCS to work on our devices even if it worked previously with their service. After several days of troubleshooting myself then CS_Agents trying to troubleshoot & escalated to Tech Support through messages & a phone call from Tech I finally received a message tonight from a CS_Agent stating that “ RCS is not a Public Mobile service. We cannot really fix an issue if it's not with a service we provide.”

RCS used to work on my iPhone with Public Mobile and stopped showing! However it works with another service provider still! So, I have no solution sorry 😞

Only suggestion I have is for us not to send other customers to CS_Agents to fix what they are not able to fix due to its not a Public Mobile service.

I am having trouble group messaging. It appears to be I. Groups that one or more have an android phone. Is it an issue with phone (iPhone 14), my public mobile cell plan or something else?

Out of the blue my iphone has lost RCS connection as well, so it's not just Android.  Maybe it really is a carrier issue that is only just showing up.  Mine's been down for at least a day from when I noticed it. (ios 18.6.2)

I have the same issue but my iPhone has had RCS missing for a while now! However the Rogers sim in my iPhone shows RCS & still works without issues. It’s Public Mobile that stopped having RCS on mine!

With Public Mobile RCS still shows waiting on activation under Messages, RCS Messaging (toggled on).

On my iPhone under Settings, General, About, Public Mobile IMS Status it only snows Voice & SMS! RCS has disappeared!

I even keep my iOS updated to the newest one (last night to iOS 26)

I also restored my iPhone as new yesterday & added a new SIM Card to my account!

I called Apple Tech & was told to contact my wireless carrier to verify they support RCS messaging on iPhones. Which I know Public Mobile supports it due to RCS used to work on my iPhone.

I have resetting network settings & rebooted which had no effect or getting it to work. I have toggled off RCS & waited a few hours then toggled it on, tried again which didn’t help. It still showed waiting on activation! I have waited a few days, no change! Tech Support is baffled & working on higher troubleshooting steps to check in the backend with the Technical support team. Tech support has even called me to try to troubleshoot but I have already tried what they were going to suggest so we will see.

Edit! Public Mobile CS_Agents aren’t able to fix RCS to work on our devices even if it worked previously with their service. I finally received a message tonight from a different CS_Agent stating that “ RCS is not a Public Mobile service. We cannot really fix an issue if it's not with a service we provide.”

this is a Google thing, you likely just have to wait.

if you waited too long, try reboot the phone, and wait another couple hours before trying again

you can ask PM to check, but I don't think they can do much with RCS registration other than reprovision your sim

Simply open ticket with PM using the Orange Chatbot icon on the lower right. (For 2FA  code when login, use email to receive code instead of SMS if you cannot receive the text on the phone.)    When open Chatbot ticket, Type the question Submit ticket and select Contact Us to get to ticket open screen

But if you have trouble using Chatbot to open ticket, then message PM using this link:

PM will reply to your community inbox,  between 9AM-10PM EST (Mon-Sun), check here:
