Public Mobile not recognized as recurring bill on Scotia Momentum Visa?

NickDJ

Hi there,

Scotiabank's Momentus Cashback visa gives 4% cash back on recurring bills like phone bills. I was with Fido before and used to get my 4% on them.

However since I moved to Public mobile, looks like they are not recognized as recurring bills as pee Visa or maybe Scotiabank?

Anyone else has this issue?

hi @Sansan

not sure about yours, but most credit card is just 1% cash back.  PM gives you a 2% points, sort of work out better.  LoL

(of course, there are other cards with better cash back, but those % usually just limited period like 6 months)

Yes, that would be the expected response and rationale behind giving back to one's valued customers.

I don't think it has anything to do with "long enough"

for a merchant to qualify for the credit card "recurring" payment, they have to pay the credit card company a bit more for credit card charge, I am pretty sure PM has opt of for any of those

your credit card probably has put Public Mobile in the wrong category, it's a glitch on that side.  So, enjoy the saving while you can

It doesn't have anything to do with a customer remaining with Public Mobile longer.  That merchant category code is set by the merchant. The merchant, in this case Public Mobile, setting the category as recurring could actually lead to slightly higher prices for all customers due to the increase payment processing fees.

I have been with Public Mobile for 5+ years using the same credit card and for those 5 years I never received th full  % cashback of my credit card until July of this year.

As of July this year I have started receiving my full cashback.

So maybe if you stick around long enough, you will also get your full 4% 🤭

@NickDJ

Only acceptable payment cards are Cdn MC and Visa debit. Public Mobile isn’t considered recurring as plans are 30 days in duration, then you can quit if you want.

hi @NickDJ

yes, this has been reported before.  PM system does not qualify for recurring payment.
