I switched to Public Mobile about a year ago to get away from my high priced plan with Bell and because my calls were dropping with Bell.
I opened a ticket with Bell and was told they were aware of the problem but they didn't have a date when it would be fixed.
As my calls kept dropping and I was paying a high price for my plan I decided to switch to Public Mobile. At first things seemed great. I would only have the odd call dropped here/there but for the most part it was better than Bell.
Then I ended up needing to make a lot of important calls due to a change in my health so I was spending a lot of time on the phone with doctors, specialists and with the government agencies and I would regularly get disconnected despite having full bars displaying on my phone.
I put my iPhone into field service mode to check the signal quality and signal to noise ratio and it checked out just fine.
I opened a ticket with Public Mobile and it was almost immediately closed. I inquired why and was told the problem is a "Coverage issue" in my area and that there is no fix date proposed.
I explained that I can't keep having my important calls dropped at random (sometimes a few minutes, sometimes 1/2 an hour to an hour with no pattern).
I explained that I would be forced to switch my service to another provider if they couldn't fix the problem and the Public Mobile Agent said that they were sorry I felt that way and that they would be happy to serve me in future. No real attempt to save my business or take my problem seriously.
Well I did, I switched away and I switched to a provider that isn't using Bell, Telus, Public Mobile shared towers because in my area that is what my phone would be primarily using. Since switching I'm happy to report that not a single call has been dropped. Not a single call was sent to voicemail without my phone ringing either.
So it's clearly a problem with Public Mobile (Telus) and/or Bell's equipment in my area and I wanted to post this here for anyone else encountering the same type of problem so that they know it's not their home, their equipment or anything else that the customer gets told but rather the equipment that Public Mobile (Telus) won't fix.
Have a good day everyone and all the best with your service.
The area I'm in for reference is in Hamilton around the Barton and Woodward / Melvin and Parkdale area in case you are as well and having the same problem.

Fido (Rogers) because Public/Telus/Bell are all sharing the same towers and I wanted to get away from their issues

Who did you go with in the end?

Just so you know Public Mobile / Telus / Bell all share towers and seeing as I had dropped calls with them you might want to go to Rogers / Fido because at least it's a different network. Their plans are pretty good I got 40gb of Data and Unlimited calling for $45/month. They also have another plan with free calling to the US as well.

My phone is dropping calls every day. I tried 3g didn't work. I've tried an agent didn't work, reset network didn't work going to look for a new provider soon getting tired of all the dropped calls

Sorry I meant CCTS... I typed CRTC. I goofed. That's who I launched my complaint with.

I expect to drop the odd call because I understand wireless isn't perfect but I'm stationary all day because I'm of my chronic pain and I'm disabled. I need a reliable working phone for emergencies and for talking to my doctors and specialists. I can't have constant dropped calls. It's ridiculous and then you get shrugged off by the Telco's that it's your equipment, your home causing interference, you being too far from the tower etc. Meanwhile I can see the tower outside my window (1500ft away), and I have 5 bars of signal on my phone with an excellent Signal to Noise ratio according to Field Service Mode on my iPhone. Also how is it the service worked fine for 8 or so months and then it became a problem in the last couple of weeks and it's a "Coverage" issue. Um, nothing has changed so how is it "Coverage" and not equipment fault / network fault? I'm with Fido now and it's flawless. Not a call dropped. Same area, their tower (Rogers) is at the end of my street just a little further in the other direction than the Public Mobile (Telus / Bell ) tower.
Going to CRTC won't do anything. They don't take customer complaints. Complaints go through CCTS.
