The big thing is to not cancel your account with Virgin. When you have your account setup with PM then port the number. Virgin account will be closed once you port.

As long as you fit the criteria as JP2 pointed out you will be able to port.

I am asking public mobile, because I would like to switch to them not koodo.

This makes no sense. Eligibility to port simply means the number is a working number in an active account with a competing carrier brand. In any event, if you wish to port to koodo and are having issues, why are you asking Public Mobile? Koodo has various customer service options to follow up on porting your number.

Put the Virgin SIM into your phone. Does it still work?

I am currently with Virgin mobile but recently tried porting out to koodo who said my number was not available to be ported for some reason?

@bud21ca, number porting is a self serve function. The moderator team get involved only to redress failed ports. Login to the self serve and initiate a number change. The first step for a number port is a check of number eligibility. Generally, eligible means the number is in an active account with a competing carrier brand.
