Porting from Koodo to PM

IrinaO
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

My son's renewal date with Koodo (prepaid) is Oct. 21st.

How can I port his number to PM before that?

I already have a PM SIM.

Also, I'd like the referral to go through.

@IrinaO $15 plan is good starter plan. If you register to autopay, it ll give 250MB data per cycle.

Koodo and Public are the same. if you don't want to renew your Koodo account then don't. public should still be able to transfer your account over without an active Koodo line. in case customer support doesn't want to do it for you. you can call the Telus porting department. I'm sure some of the members here will provide you with the number if you ask politely.

Transfering a phone number from a suspended Telus, Koodo, or Public Mobile suspended account isn't even on a case-by-case basis. It's official company policy to allow it.   It's important to note that if the account is completely closed from being suspended too long, th number can't be ported (not even to Telus, Koodo, or Public).

 @Yummy : Just Koodo prepaid. Telus is the mothership. Koodo prepaid and PM are virtual entities to that. One will front-face looking like Koodo. The other like PM. But in the background, they're the same system. So you can't transfer out of the same system. So they flip a switch on a number to make it front-face to PM.

At least that's my laypersons understanding of the deal.

Why is transfer (porting) from Koodo different than from other carriers?

Based on wording provided ' the process will be the same as transferring in from a different carrier' it is the same?

Thank you for all those that replied.

I have activated the SIM with a temporary number (and the referral code) and created a self-serve account.

I have created a community account (obviously, since I am posting)

I have submitted a ticket to port the old number via the chatbot, with the requested information.

Is there a way to expedite the number porting before Koodo charges me for another month that I won't be using?

Thank you,

David.

@DavidO   If you've submitted a ticket for the port request, then all you can do is wait to hear back from customer support.  IIRC once PM starts the process, it should only take a matter of minutes to complete the port.  Hopefully, one of the CS Agents will get in touch with you very soon.  Keep checking the envelope icon (top right next to avatar) for their message to you.

Thank you, we are thinking about the $15 one.

@IrinaO    If you have your SIM, then usually you can do the activation for the account first and pick a temporary new PM number and then use the link provided by @t_p  to have PM facilitate the transfer of the Koodo prepaid number to the newly activated account.

BTW I believe when you're activating there should be an option on page 4 to enter your referral code so that your son's account will get the $10 reward and you can get your RAF $1/30 days too.

Just to clarify, it is Koodo prepaid.

@IrinaO

This is the official procedure for that:

Transferring A Number From TELUS Or Koodo (Including Formerly PC Mobile)?

If you wish to transfer an existing number from TELUS Prepaid, TELUS Postpaid, or Koodo Postpaid, the process will be the same as transferring in from a different carrier (see the instructions above).

If you wish to transfer an existing numbering from Koodo Prepaid or PC Mobile, you will need to first complete your activation with a new number, then reach out to our Customer Support Agents here in order to transfer your existing number to Public Mobile.

Easiest way to activate is to use the live chat for activations.

@IrinaO

Make sure that you have the old SIM card in your phone when you're porting your number. You should get a SMS message from your old carrier asking to confirm if you would like to port your number. Your reply should be: YES.

The confirmation message can take a few minutes to come in. You have 90 minutes from the time of request.
