Ported number (Rogers > PM) - Calls/SMS/Data work - iMessage/Facetime doesn't

MattGruden

I ported my number from Rogers to PM and everything is working. Calls (incoming/outgoing), SMS and Data. My old Rogers account no longer shows my phone number on the account, the SIM doesn't work for calls/texts. My phone number goes to the PM Voicemail.

All and all great.

It has been 12hours but I have yet to receive a text from PM saying the transfer is complete AND iMessage/Facetime isn't working. I tried turning them off and restarting and resetting the networking settings but neither seems to have worked. I wonder if the issue is I haven't received the PM text yet saying it is complete

I did. Apple will text you to verify. And add it back in. Make sure to reboot after. Just in case.

My number is still currently tagged to my appleID since the transfer. Should I delete my number from my appleID account and add it back in?

This morning I did receive phone calls from iPhones and Android phones, but it was lagging. I had PM contact me through the ticket and ask to change my APN settings on my iPhone 14 Pro Max from isp.mb.com to sp.mb.com and now I can't receive any phone calls. I switched the APN Settings back to factory reset for PM and still nothing.

Here is the link they provided for the APN settings https://apn.how/ca/public-mobile/apple-iphone-14-pro-max

@coree see below:

  • Settings-Apple Account-Sign in and Security you will see email and phone numbers. Make sure your number is there. If not add it.
  • Reset network settings and reboot. Follow steps below.
  • Settings-general- transfer or reset iPhone - reset - reset network settings
  • Reboot.
  • Give PM time to transfer and connect to Apple network. For clarity. I actually connected woth Apple support. And the transfer is done by the engineers on the back end. At PM. So the CS agents only see the port.... not what's happening on the back end. They told me it was ported on their end and all was good. In time it got transfered.

but can you receive phone calls?  did you call the PM porting team to confirm if your port was completed ?

Thanks for the detailed steps, unfortunately the iPhone 14 is not yet back to its normal state, but I do get iMessages using my emails addresses but not the phone number. I cannot send messages to people who have android phones and says it’s not delivered, but I can receive text and text notifications from Eversafe confirmation codes for my PM account through my number.

I’ve attached 2 screenshots, the text notifications from Rogers that I got. Was it the only 2 that you get? I will be contacting them today as well to see if it’s been fully transferred on their end, I’m sure it was. Also it hasn’t been 24 hours yet so I guess I’ll be patient.

Hi @coree  couple of things.

  • Wait for the confirmation text from Rogers. And say yes. DO NOT REMOVE OLD SIM CARD.
  • You can add in your number in some cases if you ported your number. From Rogers.
  • I'm guessing you have a iPhone. So you can assign what services are allocated to what Sim. Example: Data with Rogers, Cellular with PM. Once the transfer is complete. You can Delete the Rogers physical Sim. And Assign your PM esim as the primary.
  • Go into settings-your name - and find your assigned details. Add in your phone number.
  • Once you approve the transfer and port. It will not take long for Rogers to close your account.
  • You my need to reset/clear your cellular services. (I had to) after this sms and standard text started working. (android RCS etc)
  • Imessage may take a few days to get activated. But be patient. I was not and tried everything to get it to work.  It started working on its own
  • I would give it 24-36 hours. (seems long... But it will happen)

Hope this helps.

I am having the same issue where I have a rogers sim card and purchased an esim. Got a msg from PM saying "to successfully complete your number transfer request, please restart your phone. Welcome to Public Mobile and thank you for joining us!" I did restart but my PM cellular does not have my current number displayed, should I not see this on an esim? Texting and calling to an Android phone doesn't work. Facetime and iMessage only works from my email addresses and not my number. @MattGruden did you get this to work from an esim or sim card yet?cell.pngIMG_7272.PNG

@MattGruden I'm having the same issue with my wife's phone. Did you get this to work? If so what did you do?  Tks.

@MattGruden  try turning off face time and iMessage and go to phone settings > general “shut down”

wait 2-3 mins and turn phone back on and then go turn on face time and iMessage and test  again

hi @MattGruden

first , remove the Rogers sim card (or disable if it is an esim), then  reboot your phone with the PM sim card and check if you can receive inbound calls

if inbound calls work, then the port is completed

for iMessage/Facetime, go to the settings, remove the phone number, reboot phone again and go back to the iMessage settings and enter the phone number again to reregister
