I want to port my existing Public Mobile phone number to another provider but keep my account and my monthly discounts and then choose and new number.
I'll be giving my SIM (with new number) to one of my kids.
Is this possible?
Thanks

I agree that providers just don't want SIM to be reused... ICCID is basically unique for every SIM card, and that means all SIM cards have unique identifier. So technically old SIM can be re-provisioned, but many carriers just don't want that to happen so they can probably get money off selling new SIM cards. I wonder, why even Freedom do so, since Freedom gives out free SIM for people interested into their prepaid service. (Well, I tried Freedom before and experienced totally unusable 3G where I lost LTE connection, so I try to stay away from Freedom, though)

Well...many things are _technically_ possible. They just don't by policy.
Like old SIM's. They could be re-used but providers don't.

Please don't waste the CSA's or your time it is not possible to keep your account and rewards and port your number out . So--Sorry!

Make sure that you have the old sim card in your phone when you're porting your phone. You should get a message from your old carrier asking to confirm if you would like to port your number. Your reply should be: YES.
The confirmation message can take a few minutes to come in. You have 90 minutes from the time of request.
if you didn't gettign the SMS do Reboot your phone.
what is mean for Rebooting the phone means to turn off your phone about 2 minutes and turn it back on.
and for your kids you need to buy it a New SIM card and to activate with new email and you can use the same information like your credit card and 4 digit pin,and security question,
and i don't know if you try to ask the right person for that
to contact Customer Support Agent by CS_Agent, to asking is better maybe,
i'm not sure the can do it but if you try it, not to losing,

Unfortunately, just not possible in the scenario you propose. The only chance would be if you are opening the new account with the original provider of the phone number you wish to port out. You can talk to that provider's customer service and see if they could capture your number once released by pm when you change the phone number in your account that you wish to give to your kid.

@jasanson Sorry, this cannot be done. You can either
1. port your number to another provider and then account will be closed and you lost your rewards...
2. or you keep your account by getting a new number for your kids but you lost your number

As a general rule, when you port out a number, the account will be closed (desactivated).
