Hi everybody,

One of my friends is considering to suscribe to PM.

His phone is a  Google Pixel 3 XL ( SP1A.210812.016.C2 )

What  will be the limitations with that phone with PM (of course 5G is one of them).

I dont see this phone on the list in this article :  https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/volte

Thanks for your help.

@Paul215   Lack of VoLTE would primarily be a problem for US roaming since there are no longer any 3G networks in the USA.  Canada still has 3G so a non-VoLTE phone will still work here for the most part with perhaps a few exceptions.  A phone being capable of VoLTE, and even having a toggle in settings, does not mean the phone will get it on all carriers.

@Paul215

One of my friend have the old Google Pixel 2 on PM with no issues so it is compatible with PM on 3G and 4G/LTE.

The potential problem is that this phone is not on the official list approved by Public mobile for VoLTE.  It does have the capability, but I think that at the present time, you will not get VoLTE with Public mobile.

Here is another thread on this issue:

Hello @Paul215

The phone itself requires VoLTE which I am sure it does. Therefore the phone should work with no problems.

June 2022 software update

In June 2022, Google released a software update that enabled VoLTE roaming for many U.S. and global carriers. This allows many Pixel devices to roam in the U.S. with VoLTE, if your carrier supports VoLTE roaming. Contact your carrier for more information.

The software update is available for the following Pixel devices, if applicable for your carrier:

  • Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL
