Phone usage while in US

I am on the $50 plan that is to include phone and text to Canada and US but when I tried calling Canada while in California, I could not make the call. It said my phone plan does not support such calls.  Did I misunderstand the plan?

@D2wilson, the details of the plans as per Public Mobile is stated:

5 - Talk, text and data services refer to services offered while connected to the Telus/Public Mobile network. For service when not connected to the Telus/Public Mobile network, a roaming package must be purchased. Calls must originate from Canada to the US.

It seems everyone who goes to the States, don't read the fine print. Don't feel bad, everybody does it!

If a credit card has been previously linked to your account, both of theses tasks can also be accomplished solely by dialing *611, 611, or 1-855-4PUBLIC, entering your PIN, and using the menu system from there.

These numbers can even be dialed while in the US without an active roaming plan. Although, the website is probably simpler, this is still an option if you choose not to start your roaming add-on until after you are in the USA.

Also note that while in the USA without any roaming plan, call forwarding and voicemail will not work when others phone your number, until your phone re-registers back on the network in Canada.

Using wifi...log into My Account and put enough in your Available Funds to cover costs of the 10 Day US Roaming add-on option of your choice.

Go back now and actually buy the add-on you want. Reboot your phone. You might have to manually select either of AT&T ot T-Mobile...whichever works best in your case.

The $50 plan does not cover USA ROAMING. $50 plan allows unlimited talk to USA while in CANADA.

In the past Public Mobile offered a $60 plan which included USA roaming for calls/text. That plan even included 2gigs of USA data.

Hopefully one day they bring that plan back.

You would need a USA 10 day roaming add-on while in the USA..

You could look into the app called TEXTNOW. You get a Canadian number in your area which will allow you to text and call Canadian and USA numbers for free over wifi. People can even leave you a voicemail when you're not online.

@D2wilson yes you did. The US calling  is for use from within Canada. To call from California you would have to buy a 10 day US talk addon.
