Phone sending from two different numbers

Cerasus

I switch to public yesterday and there was an issue with the esim so support issued me a temp sim/ number to get me on network and then we did transfer of number. According to PM transport was completed yesterday around 7pm however, some of my friends receive text messages from me via the temp number while other receive messages via my actual number. Any ideas on what's causing this?

@Cerasus , it sounds like you have two active phone numbers on the go on your phone.  Login to you online account and see which number is associated with your account.  It would not surprise me that you could possibly have two online accounts, one for each number.  Check also the status of your account with the old provider and make sure that account is closed.  That is a sure way of verifying the number transfer was completed.  On your phone SIM status information should reveal the active number(s).

Figured it out!

Android uses RCS messaging and the temp number was still connected to RCS. So turned it off and back on and when it reconnected it was the right number!!

Thanks everyone for the help!

If you go to your settings, about phone, and then SIM status, does it show both numbers or just the incorrect number?

If it’s the incorrect number you might have to follow up with support and double check that there isn’t anything hanging up the transition on the backend.

Sadly, no luck with this either

@Cerasus - resetting network settings on your phone can help with finicky things sometimes.

Try going into your settings, then to apps, hit see all, then find and select the messaging app you use, select storage and cache, then select clear cache.

Are you using the default messaging app on the pixel or do you use something else?

Tried it, but no luck.

Open messages then tap on 3 dots from the main screen and go to settings - chat features
Is the wrong number shown there maybe?
If it is, try turning chat off and back on and see if that helps.

@Cerasus - have you restarted your phone? Try that first.

Also, perhaps perform a Reset of your device's Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, VPN and APN settings, and connected Bluetooth devices that you've used before.

Iphone: To Reset Network Settings, begin by opening the Settings app. Next, tap General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. and enter your passcode. Your iPhone will reset network settings and restart itself.

android: Find and tap Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset network settings.

Do you have an iphone? Deregister the number on the iphone: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/

Set up your phone number On your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is on. You might need to wait a moment for it to activate.
  2. Tap Send & Receive. If you see “Use your Apple ID for iMessage,” tap it and sign in with the same Apple ID that you use on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch.
  3. In the "You can receive iMessages" section, make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected.
  4. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected in the "You can be reached by FaceTime at" section.

@Cerasus

What kind of phone do you have?

If you have an iPhone, go into your settings and then go to messages, it should show the numbers you have enabled for send and receive. Here you can de-select the temp number and make sure that you’re intended number is the only one enabled. You will also have to do the same in the FaceTime settings.
