yes I read the section where it said 4G etc etc however I need confirmation. Is it just 3G and up?

I would argue that Public Mobile has never supported any type of 2g. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that even the old CDMA network had EVDO supporting simultaneous voice and data.
This is true, only Rogers/Fido ever utilized GSM 2G in Canada (everyone else used CDMA or other long past networks like Mike, TDMA) , and the last remnants of the Rogers 2G network is set to go away "any time now". According to the following link Rogers states devices won't work after June 7, 2021, but I just did a network scan here in Regina, SK and I still see a Rogers 2G network available here as of today...

When it comes to 2g networks, you would have to go all the way back to 1x-type network/data connections on CDMA for it to be considered 2g. With that, an active phone call meant that internet couldn't be used.

Unfortunately, 2G or GSM frequencies was discontinued in Canada in June 2018 and 3G will also be discontinued in 2025.
Seems that these carriers are forcing all old cells to switch the the more expensive 4G/LTE and 5G phones.
