PM Free Cineplex Movie Ticket.....hoax?

gosamburu

i got a text message from "PM" tonight about receiving a free cineplex ticket because of the autopay scandal.  I just had to reply to the message with my email address  (which is odd).  But when i tried to reply, it was a non-canadian number and bounced.  Anyone else get this, or it might be just a hoax.

Hello,

Under normal circumstances, it would sufficient to send the dates and ID numbers of the double payments to customer assistance. Upon their receipt, customer assistance would access your account to verify the double billing.

I can only infer from their reply that they are swamped with webmail, and asking you to do what they are normally responsible for doing.

The movie-pass offer is legitimate.

Cheers.

I email their customer service and they ansered that even though they txt confirmation that I would receive an email coupon.

They needed a proof  photo capture of the double billing...

Does not sound Kosher to me...

I guess I just had to wait a couple days, but I have indeed received my promo code for Cineplex. Yay!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Several months ago, I received a similar text, and it was bona fide.

5130 is a code from which Public Mobile texts. If you were overcharged, that increases the likelihood of the text being valid. How would a scammer know about the overcharge? Lastly, I wasn't overcharged, and didn't receive a text.

My gut tells me that the text came from a legitimate source, notwithstanding the error message and bounce-back that some encountered.

Enjoy the movie!

While it does not seem relevant, yes, the word "accidently" was used, perhaps accidentally. Perhaps not, since it is a widely accepted variant of the word accidentally. This does not bring us any closer to uncovering the truth behind this alleged hoax.

Hello,

I'm curious about the spelling of a word.

Did you receive the text with "accidently" or "accidentally"?

I look forward to your reply.

Cheers.

I received a text from phone number 5130 at 2:04pm saying the following:

Public Mobile here. Last month we accidently charged you more than once for your plan. We feel really bad about this and want to offer you a free Cineplex movie pass. If you'd like to get one, reply back to this msg with your email by Oct 18 and we'll send you the code. To opt out, reply STOP or bit.ly/1n8ObE2

I replied with my email and received a message confirming receipt. Still nothing in my inbox. Maybe we have to wait until after the 18th?

Did you just randomly get the text message? I have not gotten anything from Public Mobile as of yet..

I had no such problems sending a text message and even received the following reply: "Thank you for submitting your email. A free Cineplex movie pass will be emailed to you. Don't forget to check your inbox. Enjoy!"

I certainly haven't received any kind of email regarding the free tickets. And no, there's nothing that got caught up in my spam/junk filters either.

Hoax? To be confirmed.

Yes I got the same message, and I have the same bounce back issue (cannot text outside Canada). I raised the problem yesterday in that post : http://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Paying-for-your-service/FALSE-CHARGES-PM-falsely-charg...

Hi,

According to the PM staff member who replies to Facebook posts, it's not a hoax. That said, the bounce-back of your mail is identical to what was posted.

Cheers.
