My son has a plan via Public Mobile and he has no issues. Please help!
Are you saying that your son has no issues at all in the locations you are having problems? If so swap sim cards and see if it is a problem with your phone/account?

There might not be any signal in that rural place. They use repeaters and that says that the signal is already weak there. Your community could also only have LTE. Public Mobile doesn't have phone calls on LTE.

If so, sometimes this can happen when transferring your number from a previous carrier to a new one. The system has enforced a new security feature that prompts a text to the old sim card to validate that the transfer request of the phone number is authorized by the account owner of the original number.
If you did transfer your number, put back your old sim in the phone, and wait for the text to arrive. The port request is given 90 min for the user to respond to the request. If at the current moment it is passed the 90 min of request, it likely means the port failed. This would require you to have to go back to the place you activated and seek activation support to resubmit the port request of your phone number.
Hope this helps, and if not, I hope you found a resolve.

Not calling out isn't a porting issue. Outgoing calls work right away.

Try rebooting your phone. Also try putting your phone in airplane mode and switch it back.

Are you a brand new customer?
Have you tried:
-rebooting phone
-reset network settings
-put in airplane mode for a minute, take off and reboot
-take sim card out, put back in and reboot
Did you forget your VM password? You can reset in self service.
