@jz yes, unfortunately this is the worst part of this bug:  any messages that were unable to deliver to you during the time in limbo are sadly lost forever and you have no idea other than someone contacting you later to ask why you never responded.  😞  It's been just shy of 2 year since PM launched their US roaming and this has not beed fixed.  Sadly, I'm not holding my breath for this ever getting resolved.

As mentioned above, try switching roaming data off and if it does not go back to PM right away, try selcting  PM for a carrier.

@krazykiwi, @Anonymous this doesn't help with the text issue but if someone is entirely unable to get any services it's definitely worth looking at.

I'll try that next time. Thanks.

Unfortunately it's a known bug. Two choices:

1. message the mods and wait several days for them to respond

2. wait out the 10 days of the add-on and then restart the phone

Of course you can use other methods of texting/instant messaging

@Anonymous small correction on #2:  by the time this issue comes up, the 10 days of the add-on are already done.  This issue comes up when the add-on expires but the system has not yet removed the expired add-on from the account (which for some reason is a separate process).  This does eventually happen automatically, within about 24 hours of the expiring (usually 12-24 hours they say).  So there is no need to wait 10 days.

With the current moderator wait times, the issue may actually be resolved by the time you hear back from them, @jz.  If you haven't yet, try rebooting your phone now and ask someone to send you a test message.

@srlawren: Thank you for the correction. I posted again afterwards noticing he said it had expired.

@jz: Thinking of this now...when roaming you need to select one of the US networks which you probably did. And of course enabling roaming. Upon return, did you select back to PM?

I was re-reading your OP and maybe all you need to do is restart the phone. Did you say the 10 days were up?

Otherwise:

Send ONE (1) private message to them here and include your phone number and PIN to minimize back and forth identity verification delays.

Forget your PIN? Then you'll need 3 of either of these pieces of information you used when you signed up: full address, birthdate, last 4 digits of CC you might have used, email address on the account, alternative phone number you might've entered when you signed up. Or, in addition, either of these to get to 3: last payment amount and date, last add-on bought and date.
And of course your question/problem.
Then hopefully they will get back to you as soon as they can between M-F 9-9 (ET) and Sat-Sun 9-7:30 (ET). But it could be up to a couple days.
Depending on your notification settings, you would get an email notifying you of a reply. Get back here and see a red blob over the little envelope in the upper right of your screen and click on it to see the message.
