New promo: porting required during activation?

A question that came up over on the RFD thread about the Freedom promo... It says that porting during activation is required to get the promo.  Previously, it was recommended that people sign up with a random PM number first, make sure it's working, then port their number over.  The reasoning is because if you hit one of the activation bugs, it can screw up your existing service and you've got *no* service until it gets fixed up.

I'm thinking of moving my mom over from Freedom, and during the previous promo porting during activation worked fine for both of my accounts, but I'm much more willing to wait a while to get things fixed up whereas I'd be setting her up in the evening (after mods are done for the night), so don't want to have her have to go a morning without cell service the next day if the activation fails.

Could one of the mods chime in?  @Mary_M, or somebody else?

@WearySky, one step porting is not so bad.  Just make sure to exclude the dashes from the account number.  I just remembered also some members mentioned clicking the check box about being authorized to port the account first before entering the account number.  Judging from the forum traffic, this promo is nowhere near the volume of chaos experienced during the 2016 fall promo.

My concern isn't with the port failing, it's with the dreaded "activation failed" bug, where it fails partway through activation, and you can't do ANYTHING except contact a mod after that.

Yes, Freedom port-in MUST be requested during activation. The "two step" not allowed.

If you're worried just be prepared (element C).
