I just bought a Blackview A7, 3G smart phone. When i insert my public mobile SIM card I get "No Service". In the SIM status section on the phone it states "network unknown" yet it shows my current phone number and says carrier is Telus. This SIM card worked fine on my old Samsung. Shouldnt I just be able to plug my SIM card into the new phone and it'll work?
Please help.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks everyone for your information. You've all been a great help. I sold my phone and will do more reasearch before buying another.

According to this website, it should be supported? https://www.frequencycheck.com/carrier-compatibility/JdQpUwq/blackview-a7-dual-sim-lte/public-mobile...
The information provided by that site is completely wrong. The phone being discussed is not compatible with Public Mobile. In addition, the "compatible 100% graph" should really say "0% compatible" because there is no 2g gsm network here.

@xsfpns based on the specs @Taekgun and @Luddite provided, the ONLY place you can use it in Canada will be with Rogers (or Fido, possibly Chatr--all run on Rogers network). Rogers is the only provider in Canada that has a 2G GSM network, and the 3G bands on your phone are meant for another part of the world and will not work here, unfortunately. At this point, you need to either replace the phone with something compatible, or move your service to Rogers/Fido.

@xsfpns That phone's specs as listed here https://www.mobitabspecs.com/products/blackview-a7-full-specifications-features/
are 3G Network GSM 900/ 2000 MHz.
These are NOT the 3G frequencies for Public Mobile. It will not function on PM.

I think @Taekgun and @wetcoaster are right. I can't find the specs on that manufacturer's website, so it is likely not supporting the correct frequencies.

@xsfpns, have you checked and verify if the phone is unlocked?

Telus / Public Mobile does not support the 2G GSM protocol, your phone needs 3G UMTS/W-CDMA/HSPA: B2 (1900) and B5 (850).
The only Canadian network this phone will work on will be Rogers (and their subsidaries: Fido, ChatR. As well as MVNOs like SpeakOut, PetroCan)
Edit: It seems that the website you linked to is posting this inexistent / wrong GSM compability nearly every time I see it pop up. willmyphonework.net is the most reliable I've come across so far. And I don't even consider a phone that I can't check compability of because the manufacturer / seller doesn't list frequencies in their specs .

I support what @wetcoaster has posted. Everything that I've quickly come across shows the typcial 3G bands that PM uses as GSM on your device. However, I'm by no means an expert and perhaps @sheytoon can weigh in to lend his expertise on this one.
Below is what I found for your device, not sure if there are many varients though....

Where did you buy it?
Can you check what the user manual states for network frequencies?
The information I found in a very quick search indicate that the phone might not have (all) the bands required.
