Hello, I have a Motorola Razr V3 (yes its old) and received a new SIM card from Public Mobile.

I bought a plan and activated the SIM. After powering up the phone it searches for networks but cannot connect. I have no service. When I search for networks it only finds Rogers 302-720 but cannot register. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

For any future phones, you look at make sure that it is compatible. Reaching out to the community is a really good bet. They have provided some options before for me.

You can also check on this get started page for what phone are compatible.

@Boffingham  Check out this canadian recycling cell phone retailer for very reasonable flip phones.

I used this phone for 6 years and is my emergency back up phone. Very simple to use and the battery lasts a very long time and on stand by for about 10 - 14 days.

Even with that, a customer would still have to be careful if getting one of the older Nexus devices. Some of the Nexus One and Nexus S have versions that are incompatible with Public Mobile.

It can get ridiculously confusing all the little subtle model differences all these manufacturers and carriers collude to to intentionally befuddle the consumer or to limit their use.

It's why I ask make/model/submodel when I ask.

Yes and agree.

Motorola Razr 2019 is a fold-able screen phone.  After unfolded, it looks like a soap bar phone.  Motorola makes it looks similar to the old Razr flip phone when it is folded.

Razr V3 is a flip phone.

Yeah I had the antique.

Nice phone. The Samsung equivalent is ridiculously expensive. This one's up there and not in Canada yet.

I'm kinda eyeing the Samsung Note for the stylus or that LG dual screen for the dual screen. Maybe this comes up the list. I like the compactness.

@Boffingham

If you want to get a Alcatel Go Flip, also ask the the sale rep how much is the Virgin version of Go Flip.  I got my Go Flip at TMS couple years ago.  Virgin was selling the Go Flip cheaper than Koodo.  I paid around $55 from Virgin when I switched my mother from Speakout using Motorola Razr V3 to PM. The Razr V3 is a GSM only phone and does not work with PM.

Yes it is compatible on the 3G network

Motorola Razr V3 flip phone was released on 2004 Q3.

https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_razr_v3-853.php

Rogers began supporting 3G HSPA in 2006.

Don't mistaken Razr V3 flip phone with latest Motorola Razr 2019.

@Boffingham,

@Boffingham  Alcatel makes a 3G model that is compatible. You can find them unlocked at Best Buy or Amazon.

That sucks, was going to give this to my old Mom as she is stuck at home with this COVID-19 self isolating. Her fingers can't use a modern phone so I thought this might work as it has real buttons. I checked the compatibility list but guess I didn't get the exact razr model. Thanks

@Boffingham there are alot of cheap phones nowadays grab a nexus or pixel series phone. they're always unlocked ready to go.

@Boffingham  That phone is a GSM phone according to the specs it only supports 2G. The only provider that currently supports 2G is Rogers.

If your can select 3G on your phone then it will work but the specs say otherwise.

I used to have one of those for Telus. Then they dropped CDMA. Obsolete. According to gsmarena, the Motorola Razr V3i is GSM only. Ain't no 3G. Ain't gonna work here.

Motorola Razr V3 flip phone is a GSM(2G) only phone was sold by Rogers to their subscribers when Telus was still using CDMA system.  PM does not support GSM.  Therefore, Razr V3 cannot be used with PM.

Even if your Razr is a CDMA version, Telus had switch off their CDMA transmitters on March 31, 2017.

@Boffingham  Go into your settings Mobile Network and if there is an option to set the network to auto then select it and restart your phone.

It is a Razr V3i, I will check again but I think it was compatible.

Initially it was locked and I was prompted for a code on starting the phone. I used an unlocking service who provided me code. I entered the code at startup and was able to proceed. The SIM is registerd but cannot find a network. What network should I be seeing in Ottawa??

@Boffingham yes but sometimes using a service does not keep it unlocked

@JoyLuck if the phone was locked it would ask for a unlock code

@Boffingham what is the exact model of the phone.  Try willmyphonework to check comparability.  It might not  have the correct bands.

Is there another phone you can try the sim in?
