Network locked sim card on unlocked phone for the last year!

Hi, hope someone can help me with this issue.

Over a year ago I switched over my mothers phone that I had purchased as unlocked at costco that she had been using with rogers prepaid over to public mobile. I ported over the number, things went through on my credit card and appeared to work. After that i got the network locked sim message. I tried to unlock the phone through cellphoneunblocker or another website and it still didnt work. The strange thing is this phone was never locked but now it says it is.

Anyways, I went out of town for work and honestly forgot about this thing. Going over some credit card statements recently, I realized I have been paying for this phone since then! My public mobile account for this line has never worked. I have been getting charged for over a year and have never made a call or text or anything on this line. I am sure this can be verified as there would have been literally no activity on this account since activation.

Also at this point my mother has no idea her login info or anything. Ultimately I would love to have this as a working phone and keep the account but if not what should I do? I no longer want to be charged on an account that doesnt get used and have no way to cancel or fix this situation. Any info would be appreciated!!

Thanks for the replies. Ya I'm not looking for the money back just looking to resolve the issue.

I also didnt notice because we have 4 phones in the house on public mobile that all get charged to my credit card on different days so I never really figured it out.

Regarding the *611 it doesn't work because im not on an active network.

It is a samsung phone so i will try to get Roger's to unlock it for me.

@jhavard is the phone a Samsung phone?  They tend to lock themselves to the network of the first SIM that is inserted into them, and it sounds like that's what happened with yours.  You should try reaching out to Rogers to see if they will give you an unlock code for it. If you can't get anywhere with them, contact Samsung Canada as I've heard they have been known to provide unlock codes for people in your situation.

Unfortunately, the past year you've been paying for I am 99.999999% sure you can't do anything about.  You might want to start looking at your credit card statements more often so you don't miss more things like this for such a long time.

@jhavard Hi Jeremy, there is no way to get a refund from PM at the moment. You can only stop the autopay in order being charged again. You can use *611 to change the autopay from your mom's phone.

If you want to keep the phone number, you have to port it to another carrier within 89 days after your current plan ended.

@jhavard  - For account related stuff, you need to contact the moderator team via private message.  If you would like to get help on getting the phone working, people here are quite knowledgeable.  For unlocking, I think you would need to go to Rogers, as the phone might have been locked when you put in the Rogers SIM.  BTW, what brand/model?
