Network Lock

Hi.  My question:

I bought a Public Mobile plan and sim then activated/registered.  I then installed it in my Samsung SM-G950W.  The phone and SMS did not work.  I took the phone and sim back to London Drugs where the sim and plan were purchased and the staff at the mobile department fiddled with phone and told me it was "network locked" to a different provider....  I live in Canada where recent legislation was enacted to ban the practice of "network locked" phones by merchandisers.  Anyways....the phone is a paperweight.  How do I change settings so my new Public plan functions with the phone?

@Kodenamekobra

If your phone is a Samsung you might be able to get an unlock code from the Samsung website via a chat
To start a live chat session from Samsung's Contact Us page: http://www.samsung.com/ca/info/contactus.html?CID=AFL-hq-mul-0813-11000170.

Hope this helps!

I recently had an issue where I needed to get a phone network unlocked but I didn't know what provider it was locked to.

This page gave a good expanation as to how to do it. If the first line of the first page of the app doesn't tell you the provider there is a "CSC" code that will tell you.

Once you find the provider you'll just have to call them and provide the phone's IMEI number, I think they're required to unlock the phone for you. Hope this helps!

Nothing will work until you get the phone unlocked.  Please contact Samsung Canada.  They can provide you with the network unlock code.

You need the unlock code from the phone maker or from the last phone carrier the phone had.

Next time you buy a phone make sure it's unlocked and you should be good.
