Network / Carrier Unlock for a pre Cell Phone Freedom Act Phone

I have my dad's old phone which was on Public Mobile and I have no use for it strictly under Public Mobile.  How do I request an unlock?  It rejects every sim side from the Public Mobile one that's in it right now.  The service is no longer active.

@savage-jargon : Nice update. I would have thought it faster to go through Telus. Nice service.

@Anonymous   OP already said unlocked code provided by CSA, no need to buy CPO phones or check service status.  Read carefully before you reply

@savage-jargon   PM does not sell phones until recently, I think.

If you phones was from long time, before the Cell Phone Freedom Act, it could be a phone bought  from Telus or Koodo instead of PM.

What kind of phone is that?

It never hurts, you can open a ticket and see if PM can help, but you need to tell them clearly whether the phone was from Telus or Koodo

@savage-jargon : Right. But PM hasn't sold phones in a very long time until recently. But I would go through Telus chat. That's what I used when I got some phones unlocked.

The phone is from Public Mobile.  It also has a dead SIM from Public Mobile.  I do not have a Koodo or Telus SIM to test.  It was purchased before the Cell Phone Freedom act which required the unlocking so it's locked by default by Public Mobile.

You will have to contact Freedom service provider who sold this phone to your dad. Be aware that some companies refuse to unlock their phones if you are not their customers anymore or you closed an account longer than a year ago.

@savage-jargon : You'll need to contact the CSA's here to get it unlocked. Or Telus chat. It's likely actually locked by Telus. Did you try a Telus or Koodo SIM?

@Anonymous : I see what you saw there. I think I interpret it as "Cell Phone Freedom Act" phone. But maybe I'm wrong.

What SIM do you have on the phone that was working?  Was it PM?
