Moving to a different carrier

ScottishJimmy
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I will be moving to Rogers in the next few days, not that I do not like Public Mobile I just need a new phone and this is the easiest and quickest solution.

If I am moving during the monthly term:

1. Do I get a credit?

2. Can I port my number mid month?, does it automatically cancel my Public Mobile account?

3. Can I transfer any credits? I have two accounts and will be keeping one account.

TIA

Per @Dunkman subsequent reply re #3, perhaps you might be able to (i was unaware of this - thanks Dunkman!!!).

I might recommend you try to arrange the port out within a week of your PM cycle being completed.  I'm pretty certain you will lose any remaining value for credit related to the current cycle plan cost. (i.e. if you're on a $25 plan and you port out mid-cycle, you won't get $12.50 'credit')

However, if you do have any remaining Available Balance, you could ask the Moderators nicely to transfer it to your other existing account.   Here's how to reach Moderators

To contact a moderator, there are 2 methods:

  1. Use the ticketing system for a faster response time. Click here and type moderator assistance, then select account-related issue, then select you need a human now.  Follow the prompts to submit a ticket,  or,
  2. Send a private message to the moderator by clicking here  You’ll need to be logged into your Community account for the link to work.

Watch for their response in your Community private mailbox which will be indicated by a number on the small envelope icon to the left of your Community avatar.

Sorry, it's prepaid service, no refund.

You might want to port away closer to the end of your current PM month, as no refund.

Yes, once you ported over, your account will be closed automatically.  Some people will remove the credit card ahead of time just in case.  However, if you do this, make sure you port away before the end of your current PM month.  Account has to be active for porting.

Of course, after you requst porting, make sure you still have your PM phone up.  you will receive an text from PM to confirm you are leaving and you need to reply YES for it to go throught.

Sad to see you go.....

1. Do I get a credit?

No credit.  Public mobile is prepaid.  PM does not prorate plans.

2. Can I port my number mid month?, does it automatically cancel my Public Mobile account?

Yes, it will automatically cancel Public mobile account.  You may want to remove autopay first though to be on safe side.

3. Can I transfer any credits? I have two accounts and will be keeping one account.

Officially no.  Unable to transfer rewards.  Some customers have been able to transfer available funds in the past.  YMMV

Hi @ScottishJimmy

  1. no credit, as Public Mobile is prepaid, there are no refunds for unused services
  2. you can port anytime, yes it automatically cancels your public mobile account
  3. no, you can't transfer credits from one account to another, regrettably
