Los Angeles roaming experiences?

pianoladder

I'm travelling to Los Angeles for a few days and am worried about the 3G shutdown warnings.

Does anyone have any recent experience travelling to downtown Los Angeles and using talk, text and data? I want to start calls and data from the airport. Thanks!

Only you can decide what works best for you.

I use TextNow for a long while and it works as expected. Tiny ads do appear but they do not bother me. The only issue is you cannot receive 2FA (short SMS); you have to pay for those.

Another option is Fongo. It can receive 2FA/SMS but you cannot send SMS. And voice quality is not that great...

Try them all and let us know 😁

A buddy I work with did and was all throughout California including LA for a couple days and he said it was really frustrating bc it was so hit and miss, ended up just getting a cheap option on the street.

If you expect to make calls you netter get free voip app like TextNow and use WiFi or buy US Data add-on and utilize data for voip calls. Everything else is pure lottery.

Hi @pianoladder you will need to try to connect to T-MOBILE and its 2G network should give you the voice connection

To be safe, get roaming data or local prepaid data and use VoIp app TextNow to make voice calls

No experience with downtown LA.  The 3G shutdown should only affect calling.  Text and data should be unaffected.
