We live very near the U.S. border. Will we occasionally be paying roaming charges while still within Canada? This happened when we were with Fido for many years and they cancelled roaming on our phone, which solved the problem.

With Public Mobile & Bell's Lucky Mobile there are no Pay per Use, Roaming, Accidental & or overages or any made up Charges what so ever. If something is not part of your Plan or an add on you have purchased it Simply just doesn't work.

I would try and manually search and set it to the public mobile network.
This will stop you from connecting to the US networks. If you connect to USA networks, you will not get charged roaming but you will also not receive or make calls nor send smses

Public Mobile is a purely prepaid carrier - if you don't pay for a feature beforehand you are not able to use it. No surprise bills after the fact.
So if you don't pay for US roaming your phone will not connect to US cell phone towers.

@zunga1940 No roaming charges to worry about. PM is prepaid there are no extra charges.
