Keep my old phone number after placing a sim card already

Hello, my girlfriend registered for PM for the first time two days ago and she already placed an order for a physical SIM card and now she changes her mind and wants to transfer her current phone number to PM. Is it still possible to do this?

We just checked and her rogers sim is still working. And we also just realized that we received these two messages from PM and Rogers but she took the rogers sim out when she was transferring number so that's why we didn't know about these 2 messages. I did what the message from PM said to reinitiate the process and did what the Rogers' message said to approve the request on their side as well.

check if your gf's old carrier sim card and service with the old carrier still working.  If it is, the port is not done yet

if the old carrier sim no longer working, check the PM sim card.  Make sure you removed the old carrier sim card, or disable the old carrier eSIM.  PM sim should be the only on there and only one set as active (or Turn on this line is enabled and set as Primary if it is an iPhone).
Then reboot the phone and  Reset Network Settings.  Test to make sure the PM sim works for both incoming and outgoing calls and data works. 

If she still cannot receive incoming calls, check with PM porting team in the morning to confirm if the port was completed.   I will message the number to you via the Community inbox ( https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/notes/privatenotespage ) .  Check the envelope icon on top right.  Call them and get an update with the port status

Hello, we were transferring number and activating the sim card at the same time today but after waiting for the transferring process for 2 minutes, it said that something went wrong but my gf still got an email from PM says that "You're all set.... Please note it may take up to 5 hours for use to transfer your number...." and it's been 5 hours already.

Assuming that the phone number can be transferred to Public Mobile, your girlfriend can request that at any time after the Public Mobile account activation has been completed.  The option will be available inside the Public Mobile smartphone app under Account and Transfer Phone Number, but your girlfriend should only proceed to that step after all the Public Mobile account activation has been finished (after the SIM card arrives).
