If you look at the VoLTE link that was offered earlier, granted yes, you can't tell by brand as you now have to enter an IMEI number which is OK but the only way to get that is to look on the box while you're at the store and then try to log into that link while in Costco or any other store.

I know phones can be expensive but here's an option if you have a Costco membership or know someone who does have one.
This will work with PM and is pretty affordable.

My spouse had the same issue so I entered the IMEI in the link (bottom of page) to see if her old Samsung S8+ was compatible on VoLTE and it indicated not compatible so I ended getting the new Samsung S24FE.
If you don’t want to get a new phone. There is a work around it by using WhatsApp or TextNow app when connected to wifi or data until you have enough to get a new phone.

@Char2664 wrote:I use a LG velvet and it's not volte compatible. Now what?. I put in a ticket to see if they will help
Putting in a ticket won't help you. What you need to do is get a newer cellphone that is on the Public Mobile list of VoLTE enabled cells. Most major brand name cellphones that are newer will likely work for you. ie; iPhones or Samsungs that are newer. If you're unsure of your choice, ask here in the Forum and someone will likely have experience with your cell.

hi @Char2664
LG Velvet is not on the VoLTE whitelist and hence you might have trouble with voice
if you are in Manitoba, the 3G decommission is coming faster, end of 2025
if you are in other part of the country, you should still get calls in most area, and should only have trouble with calls in some area but not all

I understand you've used this phone for a year now however, in life, things change. Technology changes, sometimes for the better. But here's the thing. You mentioned that PM cannot kick you off with no notice. With that being said, actually, there is notice. And @Dunkman shared that link with you. That is your notice. These Public Mobile forums are your first point of contact and information gathering. If there is an announcement Public Mobile wishes to make, it's in the Announcement section. This is a self serve service and you pay for a bare bones service. You chose to self serve, this is self serve. 🙂

Looks like you need to update your phone if you wish to stay with Public Mobile. The other networks will all have the same problem eventually.

the change to the 3G band is recent. Tell us what phone you have and we can advise furhter

Which model phone are you using? Is it VoLTE compatible with Public mobile?
Telus is refarming the 850 Mhz 3G to LTE and some customers are having Voice issues depending on their phone.

If your phone is VoLTE compatible with Public mobile, these phones will not have issues with this network change.
Here is a VoLTE checker and more information

Are you 100% sure it's not your phone? I only bring this up because Telus is starting to remove 3G from it's networks slowly and if you're phone isn't on the whitelist, it actually may be affected. With that being said, which phone are you using?
If you do have an updated phone that is on PM's whitelist, you can try going into your Settings, reset Network Settings and restart your phone. See if that helps you reconnect to the network.

if you have an different cellphone handy..try the PM sim in a different phone. (ignore this suggestion if you use esim)
ed..
could be a VoLTE issue too. Here's something to read about VoLTE and a checker to see if yours is enabled...
