I’ve tried logging in with his phone number and email address and public mobile isn’t recognizing either. Wondering if anyone has ever run into this before.

Is the phone line still active? If not, then there is nothing more to do. If it's still active you'll need to disable the subscription so it doesn't automatically renew. If it is active you should be able to use the forgot email address and/or password links to have a one time password sent to his phone via text.

if you know which credit card was used for renewal and if you don't need the phone number and account, you can simply work with credit card or once the credit card is cancelled, the account won't get renewed again
