I am going on a trip across Canada, from ON to BC for the months of July and August. I normally only have the minimal $15/mo plan with only 100 talk minutes and unlimited text. Which suits me fine, because I don't go far from home often and use my VOIP house phone, which is extremely cheap. I also use my internet wifi while on the property.
I see a plans for Canada wide, but it says those are only for new subscribers??
Help?

If you have public mobile rewards points, the add on minutes and data could be "purchased" with the rewards.

Only if the 500 minutes don't last the two months. I was thinking of suggesting a second plan like that but wondered if @CharlieR64 would want to be juggling two sim cards (or maybe the phone is dual sim?). The Telus $100 a year plan is much cheaper than any of our suggestions!
Valid point. However, that's $100 for a one year phone plan and only 2GB a month. Have you ever gone on a vacation and used less than 2GB of data? LOL. Heck, I can't go on vacation and use less than 10GB of data. Even camping I use more than that. 🙂
I guess it really depends on what @CharlieR64 wants. For value, suggested by a very wise man, Charlie can add the $5 500 Canadian minutes to his current $15 plan. This way he'll have at least 600 minutes for a month and can continue to use his current phone number. Or he can always get two $5 500 Canadian minutes as they never expire. Then grab a secondary plan for $34 which gives him 60GB of data to play with while he's away for 2 months. Once again, guess we'll wait to hear back from Charlie to see exactly what he's thinking he needs. 🙂

The other option not mentioned here is to turn off subscribe the day before you leave. Your plan will stop at the end of the 30 days cycle and if you're only away for 2 months, that's perfect. You can start it back up when you return as you have 90 days after it stops. The part I'd suggest, just grab a SIM card from Amazon for $5 and if it's still available when you leave, a few days before you leave, grab a second account with a different number. It depends how much data you want while you're away. Best part, use your referral code from your $15 account so July is regular price and you'll get $10 off of August. The $25 plan will give you unlimited talk and text and 5GB of data if that's more than enough. Or... there will be newer plans around that time. Just don't lose your original SIM card. In all honesty, I wouldn't suggest a data addon. If you think about it, 1GB of data is $15 plus 500 Canadian Minutes is $5. That's $20 extra a month for very VERY little. Getting a temporary second account with that $10 referral discount would be a much better option. If you happen to have a second phone, that's even better. I guess it really depends what you want. But NEVER get rid of that $15 plan. I'm keeping mine for life!

@CharlieR64 You might also want to consider a current Telus promotion which is unlimited Canada-wide calling plus 2GB of data per month for $100 a year (works out to about $8.33 a month). After the year it presumably reverts to 400 minutes and 400 texts with no data but if so you could come back to Public Mobile as a new customer although you won't likely get a $15 plan any more. See

PM has made it tougher for members to downgrade their plan once you have upgraded it.
Login to your account and on the Subscription tab>Manage Subscription>Change Subscription. There might be a $19 plan with 1gb of data and unlimited calling and texting or the $20 plan with 3gb of data and unlimited calling and texting.
Or you can pause (Subscription) your current $15 plan and download the TextNow app for free calling and texting when connected to wifi.
What is your VoIP plan? Is there an app so you can use it on your trip?

@CharlieR64 Since you won't be able to switch back to the $15 plan if you upgrade your plan, you'd probably be better off getting an add on for Canada-wide talk minutes (that don't expire until used up) and a data add on (which lasts 30 days from time of purchase).

Existing customers can only switch to plans that are offered to them within their accounts. This means that switching back to the $15 plan won't be an option. You'll have to choose from the available plans.
