Get recording saying I don't have a talk plan

Raybone

I was dialing out and got a recording that I don't have a talk plan and was asked to upgrade my plan.  My plan is unlimited text/talk and 4.5g of data for $40/mo.  I have not changed the plan or any other features and am on autopay.  I made a call literally 3 minutes and it was fine. Now I am getting recording for last several hours and can not make calls.  I run my own business and can't afford down time on my phone. Any suggestions?

Beautiful. I shed a tear while reading this. Public mobile loves your support lol.

Heh... Well, it's mostly due to the whole not having to worry about unexpected things on my bill that will keep me from switching. Lucky is sort of in my area, but it's same towers and PM seems to have the better offering. My city is dominated by Rogers towers, but Chatr still classes it as out-of-zone and isn't a viable option for that reason. So part of my support stems from the fact it's pretty much the best of what I can get for my limited budget and work requires me to have a cell phone. Once I have been with the company for a year, they might issue me a phone on their plan, which means I don't want to be tied into a high priced 2-year contract on a post-paid either. Even if they do issue me it, odds are I will just dual SIM it. Keep my PM account for personal stuff, and uses theirs for business and international calling.

Random issues are pretty common with PM. I know when I first started it was annoying that I would often be without service, frequently drop calls, and generally have poor service quality, however, once I factored in the cost savings I figured it was worth the headaches. For example, frequently I get a long delay before a call is even placed after dialling. Sometimes when I call myself from another phone, it can take my phone over 45 seconds to start ringing (tried a few different phones to rule out it being the phone). Often times, even calling a local number in my own area code, it warns me that I am calling long distance and may be billed for it (even though I have Canada wide... and I am just calling my neighbour.) I've actually started to enjoy the random quirks. I know the day when I get that super duper Koodo offer deluxe extreme deal that will be too good to resist, that I will still likely stick around with PM. I am already spoiled by the fact that I never need to worry about getting any huge bills because my phone simply won't let me call anywhere that will cost me extra money. Went travelling in the USA with a friend, I came back owing $0 and never shut off my phone. The friend came back owing over $100 due to it randomly connecting to a US network and the phone auto-updating all their apps and the OS itself.

With that said, often I find when the network is being a bit squirrelly that I try rebooting the phone and if that fails, I eject and reinsert the SIM, that usually makes it happy again.

Is it a number you have called before?  If so, chances are it's a temporary issue.

It's not common. This is the place that we see all the complaints. So it *seems* common to us.

Edit: @Raybone: Your account shows as active right? If it says suspended then your autopay didn't go through. This seems to happen to some people too.

WTH!? Why does this seem to happen so often?!

Maybe a quick fix is to try the lost/stolen feature.
Log in to self-serve. Plan & Add-Ons from top menu. Lost/Stolen Phone from next menu. Suspend Service button. Log out. Wait a few minutes. Log back in and back to Lost/Stolen Phone and Resume Service this time. Log out. Restart phone.
See what happens.
