Hello,
I have three possibly related questions:
A]
I am currently on the 100 talk minutes plan per month. If I exceed my talk minutes, can I still place a 911 call and possibly receive a call from 911 if they need to call me back to confirm anything. I am retired and sick, so I cannot afford to have 911 access blocked in any manner.
B]
What plan could I Upgrade to get unlimited minutes and how much would it cost? My talk pattern is only local, I do not travel and do not need unlimited North American or unlimited World. So I talk where I live (eastern Ontario)
C]
Finally, if I want to upgrade my plan, how do I do it?
Thanks

A. ANY mobile phone, with SIM or no SIM can make 911 call. I am not sure if you will be able to receive call from 911 if you have no SIM. I do not know if mobile phone companies provide address info when you call 911 but it is a good idea to have your address details printed and taped on a back of your phone in case they ask for it.
B. Next plan with unlimited inbound/outbound calls (SMS is unlimited with any plan) is $25 plan.
C. Log in into your PM account and select Change Plan. On next page select new plan and click on
I do not recommend changing plan Now as you will be overpaying your PM service unless your renewal day is 'tomorrow' (and even that might confuse PM...). Changing on Next renewal is the safest way!
If you are home bound and have home Internet (and WiFi) I suggest as backup to have TextNow app to make calls over Internet. Mobile service might be down but Internet working and then app will save a day.
Stay well!

911 works on every phone even without an active sim card in the phone. So no service provider or plan is needed to use 911 in or out.
All you need to supplement your $15 plan is the $5/500min Canada wide calling add on. It's a one time purchase that rolls over each 30 days until it is completely consumed. The first one I bought took me nearly 18 months to finally use up. Once consumed it disappears from your self serve accounts overview page. As does your 100 outgoing minutes.
All incoming calling is free. So are calls to toll free numbers like government agencies. If you have a smartphone consider installing the fongo app for free calling on wifi (like to your voicemail) to not consume outgoing minutes when you don't have to.
Edit:
Fongo also works on mobile data. (0.5mb=1min/250mb=500min)
If you purchase the $5/500min add on you must add the funds to your account first either with your credit card on file or by adding a pm voucher. Then you go to the plans and add ons page and choose the add on you want to purchase. Then scroll down and confirm and submit your purchase. It will then show up at the bottom left of your overview page.
Just look at your account like a vending machine. Add the money. Make your selection. And submit your purchase.
Edit:
The $25 plan has unlimited incoming and outgoing calling/texting and 1gb of data.
If you want to change plans you go to the same page and choose your new plan but it's best to schedule a plan change on next renewal. If you are upgrading it is suggested you add the funds for the new plan before your renewal date because there is a glitch that can cause autopay to fail upon renewal when upgrading and your service will accidently get cut off making you pay manually to reactivate your service.
It is always best when making these kind of changes to do the following to prevent weird stuff from happening or getting error messages.

@newCellUser You are on the $15 plan? That has Unlimited incoming calls
For upgrade, the next one up is $25 plan for Unlimited incoming and outgoing calls.
You can also buy $5 500 minutes add-on. The minute addon has no expiry It will kick in once the 100 minutes are used up. Leftover will roll over to the following months until all used up. So, even you used up all the 500 minutes add-on , it is still just $20 /month. And it could be cheaper per month if the 500 extra minutes last you 2 or 3 months (or possibly longer)

@newCellUser , emergency calls can be made without minutes in the plan. In fact it can be made without a SIM card in the phone. The cheapest plan with unlimited minutes is the $25 plan. This plan includes unlimited text and 1GB data. To change the plan, simply go into the self serve account and select the change plan option. You will then be presented with the option to change the plan on renewal or immediately. The best option is to change on the next renewal otherwise you end up forfeiting the current plan cycle.
