I've never been a fan of eSIM, too many problems reported here. Might want to consider getting a physical SIM card. This may be faster than getting help with this issue. Depending on how backed up CS Agents are dealing with BF deals and it's the weekend so, not sure about staffing issues.
If you need a physical SIM, Amazon sells them. Click on AMAZON for the link.
Or locations near you that have a SIM. TELUS STORES

HI @Bengrimsrud
did you use the app to subscribe and got all the way to the last step? Subscription via the app will install the esim for you and you don't have to manually install the esim
Please check Sim Manger screen on your phone and see if you can find a Public Mobile esim there
if it is there, make sure it is enabled (or Turn on this line is enabled) and set as Primary. But if you don't see the PM esim there, check PM's welcome email and there should be a QR code for esim installation

@Bengrimsrud, how long have you been waiting for the email? Have you checked your junk or spam folder to see if it got trapped there? If you still don't have it you should contact a support agent:
