Does Punkt work with Public Mobile in Ontario?

I am considering get a dumb phone and have been looking at Punkt. Does anyone know if it works well in Ontario?

I did read something about carriers dropping 3G and therefore it will not work in the near future. I haven’t found any further information on that though.

Good point @BKNS27

@Lat01  if you want a "dumb" phone, you should get one with a "dumb" price tag, get a $100 clamshell basic phone.  Another problem with this "fancy" small market phone is the lack of support and update.  If you get a clamshell phone from Telus, you know Telus (and PM) will for should keep it works for couple years or people will scream.  With phone like this, if it is not compatible with the network tomorrow, the manufacturer won't care

@Lat01

For $319 for the PM02 at $319. You can get a good 4G/LTE and 5G phone.

Hello @Lat01

This is the phone I will be buying for several of my senior neighbors I help out often as smart phones are just too complicated for them.

Nokia 2780 Flip feature mobile phone (hmd.com)

Nokia 2780 Flip - Ebay

I'll be in the US in the next few weeks and picking one up for myself too...  something to play with and test. 🙂

hi @Lat01

the phone seems to have the network bands on both 3G and 4g

But make sure you don't just get the 4G only version as you need the 3G for voice (this phone is not currently VoLTE whitelisted with PM)

yes, 3G will be gone, who knows what will happen.  By then, i think most 4G phones will be VoLTE whitelisted

But honest, the phone is not cheap, it worth the money?

@Lat01

There are 4G Punkt phones available but it depends on which model you are looking at. It may or may not work on PM.

Which model were you looking at?

For $115 for the Punkt, I would consider the Moto G Play or Samsung A03 phone for about $150 and you are guaranteed that it will work on PM.

@Lat01 , the 3G network is slated for shut down at the end of 2025.  Some say it will be running a lot longer, so who knows exactly when it will be shut down.  TBH, this service has really shunned non smartphone users when the app rolled out and activation on the app became mandatory.
