I have a Public Mobile phone # + data plan that I only use for data. I have never given my phone number to anyone nor have I ever made a phone call from it. However, I was receiving non-stop spam calls and calls from debt collectors and robo-dialers, from phone numbers that often times don't even make sense. People keep asking for somebody, by name, that isn't me, to pay up on old debt.
It became so frustrating that I switched my phone number within the Public Mobile settings. The moment after I got my new phone number, I began getting text messages and phone calls and voicemails from different people about some other person and the money they owe and other scams.
How do I get a fresh number without the baggage of a previous owner? Is that even possible with Public Mobile?

There isn't any publicly accessible way for a customer to check if a phone number has ever been used before, but the spam calls being received can often have very little to do with the number having been used by someone else before. Some of these orgnanizations often call entire ranges of phone numbers, so preventing these calls entirely is very difficult.

The thing is, we're now into choosing from really obscure area codes for whatever region we're in. Like, forget about the 'original' area codes, these seem totally random. It's hard to imagine that all these different combinations of numbers have already been used. Even a few years ago I was able to get an original area code on another phone from another provider. I was thinking that Public Mobile somehow sources cheaper numbers than other higher tier providers, if that's a thing.

HI @The_dude_01
you never used it, but the number was used by someone else before, the previous owner could be the problem
why not go to My Account, Profile page and choose a different phone number? you can change your phone number up to 4 times per cycle

Not really. Numbers are recycled after 6 months and robo callers and collections keep trying that number no matter what. Best to keep trying different numbers until one works. I changed my number like 6 times till nobody called.

@The_dude_01 That’s good question , unless you were one of the first people using public mobile and chose number with public , then I’d assume they have all been recycled numbers at some point
