Detailed billing information

TAD
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

We are on the $25.00 plan and our bill came today for $25.76. We have the auto reward. Subtracting the $2.00 auto reward, our bill is $23.00. What is the charge of $2.76 for (GST of 5% and British Columbia PST of 7% plus ???)

With thanks for your help! TAD

Really?!! I swear I saw his username online the other day.....maybe he just still likes to check in every once in awhile. But if he is no longer with pm his username should say retired.

Edit:

Ok I guess the other day was 3 months ago! All the best @Alan_K you'll be missed...kinda sorta maybe?!!🤔

 @computergeek541 : Maybe someone could flag his ID as Retired like Tiana_V if that's true.

This is why pm says there are never any overages, hidden fees or extra billing because it just can't be done ( if you have a balance ok they could...but they don't.) The exception to this is if you go to a koodo store for activation and they will charge you whatever they want if you agree to pay it....right @Alan_K 😃!!!

Alan hasn't been with Public Mobile for a considerable amount of time.

@hTideGnow

At other prepaid providers you must keep a balance in your account or add a preauthorized credit card to your account. A preauthorized card allows a provider or merchant unfettered access to charge whatever they like to your card. I never set up a preauthorization of my card(s) ever...I used to pay the $2 charge to freedom to pay for my plan in store. Cheaper in the long run.....

Public mobiles autopay system is not preauthorized this is why autopay failures occur more often here than other providers. Pm is allowed to attempt only one charge once every 30 days for your plan amount or less. If anything interrupts that attempt and it fails then that's it autopay fails. Other providers can attempt to charge your preauthorized card as many times as they like but they all have a policy of how many times...2, 3, 5...10?

I can’t help thinking we are probably lucky we don’t get charged taxes on the amount of our monthly charge covered by rewards, IE tax on $25 for the $25 plan even though it really only costs us $23. I recall in the past that Costco coupon items always had full taxes charged even when the price was reduced by a coupon.

From what I can interpret from the fine print of most other carriers...they do have overage charges for prepaid. This place does not.

If it is prepaid, how they charge Overage if I don't have Available Fund in my account?  Or I have to have Autopay setup so they can charge anything after?  Or if no Autopay, I will have to clear the overage charge before I can renew for next month?

Good point. You need to have a balance for Telus prepaid. Take a look at their platform.

An example, my old VM prepaid account: When your minutes are used up, they will charge a "Out of plan" rate, and the money is taken from your balance. If your balance is 0, you'll get a message asking you to make a payment before having service.

Yes Telus prepaid will continue to charge. PM is much better...it's as good as how well you manage your account!!!

I'm going to suggest one thing further... if you need "official" detailed billing information (eg. to claim expenses at work or for some other official reason), you can reach out to a CS Agent (staff) to arrange it.  Most often, a printout from your account will suffice.  Just throwing this out there in case you need something extra we're not aware of.  🙂

If you need un official but pretty good looking...contact me.

At least it includes the provincial 911 fee whereas other providers charge you the 911 fee, taxes, overage charges, other fees, etc. It all adds up! Usually with prepaid, everything is included with no overage charges!

@TAD

If you were in Alberta, there is no Provincial tax and will be slightly cheaper…just the GST!

So it will be $23 + PST + GST in BC.

@TAD   Yes, one thing PM is not clear is that it does not show the tax they charged on My Account.  Any amount you see (Plan amount, Add-on amount, transaction amount, ) are all pre-tax amount.  Tax will be applied when they charged you on the credit card.

It is a quirk of the prepaid phone documentation. Many other prepaid mobile accounts use the same method.

All transactions/top ups/auto-pay have taxes paid BUT only the non taxed funds show online.

If you use the hybrid auto-pay.....when you do a top up hit any key before you do the submit and the screen will re populate and show taxes. Then print that if you need a receipt.

That amount seems correct.  Here's how I calculate it...

$25.00 - Plan cost

($2.00) - AutoPay discount

----------

$23.00 - Sub-total

$ 1.15 - GST 5% on $23

$ 1.61 - PST 7% on $23

----------

$25.76 - Total cost due

Is there a miscalculation somewhere (else)?  🙂

@TAD

As per the previous response it is tax.  BC charges 7% Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and 5% federal Goods and Services Tax (GST).  There are some products that have PST exemption; unfortunately, phone plans aren't one of them.  The categories that don't charge PST include:

  1. All food, including basic groceries and prepared foods.
  2. Books, newspapers, and magazines
  3. Children’s clothing, footwear, and car seats and booster seats
  4. Bicycles
  5. Prescription medications, household medical aids, and many health and medical products.
  6. Pet services (e.g. veterinarian)

Could you post a screenshot of Payment History?

 Yes, like @Anonymous said , that's taxes.
