Hi,
As I am very ill, I am preparing a document for a family member to follow when I eventually die, to cancel my accounts, including the one here at Public Mobile. Is there a simple way for that family member to do so, other than using my account to login and submit a ticket? I have documented the procedure to get to this point, but the family member who might be left to do this is not computer literate and odds are will not be able to follow my procedures at all.
Note: This is an information seeking question, only. Do not cancel my account because as far as I know it, I am still alive (to some degree) at this point. 😉
Many thanks,
The grateful almost dead.

@newCellUser You have received several workable solutions, however I think the easiest for your family is simply to cancel your credit card. Once done there will be no charges or final billing as PM service is prepaid.

I am sorry to hear of your ill health. Perhaps as mentioned there is someone you would like to give your account to? Perhaps a younger member of your family with whom you have a special relationship who would appreciate the gift of the account to keep your memory alive and give them comfort after you have passed? If you do not have a lot of usage and you are not already on the $15 plan consider scheduling a change plan on next renewal to the $15 plan. Purchase the $/500min add on to supplement outgoing calling over and above the 100 outgoing minutes.
Do you have a credit card that will expire in this current year? Put that card on for your autopay card. Or load the amount of funds you think will cover the last few months that you are still here for. (I can give you details of a visa gift card with a zero balance that can be used for the autopay $2 reward and data bonus.) And remove your credit card. This way your account will eventually suspend for non payment.
But if you bequeath your account any additional funds will pay for the account for a little while as a final gift. Leave all of the account details for the recipient when you bequeath it. If necessary any accounts that need to be closed after you pass on that have been forgotten but you have used your phone number for 2FA can still be accessed thru the new account holder you have bequeathed it to. I still maintain my late partner's number for this purpose some 5 years later. It helps that rewards make it a free account too! With your account on the old rewards program the new owner has this opportunity as well. Then you will always be with them.
My two accounts are free forever.... will have to bequeath them to someone too! Remember laughter, positivity and acceptance will make your time remaining easier for all....it will give comfort to those struggling to accept what you may have already done.

@newCellUser So sorry to hear that you're seriously ill enough to have to consider this.
Do you currently have a payment card registered on the account? As advised, it might be better to just remove that for now and perhaps purchase couple months of vouchers as needed (or family/friend can purchase them for you) so that you can load the funds either by dialing 611 or via your self serve account. That way the available funds will be used to renew your account for shorter periods and as noted earlier, if there's no funds available for renewal, then the account/number will automatically deactivate after 90 days of non-payment from the last payment date.

You could remove your card altogether and just pay month by month via vouchers so that your card doesn't get dinged if you don't want it to.

There isn't really any cancelling here. It's more like stop paying. Are you carrying a balance? If you are then that's a little trickier. But if you just renew each month out of a credit card then when that credit card gets closed (as usually happens upon "expiration") then the account can't be paid and it suspends and eventually deactivates fully.
So for doing it from the account: The log in is just the email address and the password. Be sure to also give them the log in of your email service for other considerations. Then all they need to do is remove the credit card and it won't renew like above. No ticket required.
Perhaps it might be a better choice to have someone with some technical know-how to deal with your technical matters.
Just you posting this will not prompt any closure. Not to worry.
There might be a family member interested in keeping the account though.

Two ways to do this. Call 611 from your phone and enter your PIN and turn off autopay. Log into your self service account and turn off autopay or remove your credit card information. By doing either of this your account will close automatically after 90 days from the next renewal date.

If the account is on AutoPay, cancel the CC. If it is not on AutoPay, don’t renewal your service…after 90 days your account will be closed.
